I was looking for a functional laptop backpack to use everyday for work, that would also be great for travel, with more of a ‘woman-in- the -city’ vibe than an ‘adventure/backpack-y’ vibe. I ordered 6 different packs to try.
First impression of the Travelon Anti-theft Classic Large Backpack:
Attractive styling. Looks sleek. The interior material is awesome: soft, and great color. Has enough structure to be helpful, but not stiff. Great zipper pulls and zippers. Very functional side pockets.
Used the pack as my carry-on for a 1 week trip:
Great organizational features. Pack holds more than I expected. True to its claims, this pack is built for security, which includes straps that are resistant to being cut. For me, this meant that when fully-loaded and heavy, the shoulder straps became uncomfortable (because of their contour, or lack of contour) and the small carrying loop on top was ALSO uncomfortable when I had to carry the bag in one hand. Not a deal-breaker, though.
Used pack as every-day work bag:
Love the style, love the overall size for every-day. I have to carry laptop chargers, phone chargers etc with me all the time, and there is no clear place to stow such things out of the way. The multiple pockets started to annoy me a bit... I just don’t want to think that hard about where things are on the daily! :) But still not a deal-breaker.
One of the other bags I ordered to try was the Lo & Sons Hanover backpack. I fell in love with it immediately as a perfect every-day bag. Meanwhile my son (16) was eyeing the Travelon, as his former hugely-giant school backpack was falling apart. SO.... the Travelon has found a place in our home as his everyday bag (it is highly overqualified for this) but I’m quite sure I will use it again for travel. Not sure what it means when a backpack is acceptable stylistically by both a 16 year old guy and his mother, but WELL DONE TRAVELON! :)
