Gradually the qualities of Jack Reacher I've enjoyed are eroding. This is not a bad book. If it was the first Reacher book I read, I think I would have loved it. But I've read all of his books. The quality of the first 8-10 was generally great. Then down a notch on many of the next ten or so, followed by more decline. I read that Child said, "I've smoked cannabis five nights a week for 44 years." So he started at 14 or 15. Maybe the weed stimulated his ideas in his early years of the Reacher books, but perhaps the accumulated effect of such prolonged heavy use is contributing to his decline in the novels. Sad but I think it is time to end the series. Makes me think of Calvin and Hobbes, my all time favourite comic strip. Bill Watterson chose to end writing the comic strip while he was still at the top of his game (in my opinion). Too late for that for Child.
