It does what I want it to do; shoot high school football games at night under the lights and be tight and bright.

It costs! but cheaper than Canon or Nikon. some Tamarons are close.

BIG LENS RESPECT!. when you walk on the field with this over your shoulder NO ONE asks for ID, assumed professional.

can't say that the Sigma programmable dock really did much.

I use a non-full frame (APS-C) camera (prosumer,) a serious body that has less ISO noise is the key.

we use the 1.4 teleconverter from Sigma for daytime nature shorts.

300mm (lens) X 1.4 (teleconverter) X 1.6 (APS-C) = 672 mm equivalent

on the sidelines with an APC camera the bottom end is still too large, but perfect with a full-frame

UPDATE:

3 years and 3 football seasons later.

Still love it, switched to a full-frame 5D, 2 years ago, perfect fit

Our local sports photographer, for our newspaper, got one after seeing my results were better than his.
