This replaced a Hamilton Beach dual carafe and K-cup brewer, which failed by leaking all over the counter top. Hamilton Beach support was next to useless. My first Cuisinart failed soon after purchase when it stopped puncturing the K-cup top cleanly and making a mess during the brewing process. Cuisinart's return policy was costly but Amazon made a special exception because the problem was reported only a couple of days outside its return window; they offered an exchange, but no refund. Whoever designed the carafe side has probably already been fired for incompetence. The jug lid has to be pried off with your finger nails, not nearly as ergonomic as flip up carafe lids. The aperture through which you have to pour the water to fill the reservoir is tiny and right at the back of the machine. The jug cannot be tilted enough to fill the reservoir because it touches against the flip up cover. Instead you have to overfill the carafe, then fill to the required measure using the scale on the reservoir's side, at the same time keeping one eye on where your pouring because of the small aperture, then throw away what water you don't use.
