What a great book. I was challenged to read a book with a main character who lives with depression, and Phillip Cameron's The Day We Are Born was recommended to me (thanks, Reddit). As someone who has lived a life surrounded by depressed people, Phillipa's descriptions about the illness are both on-point and easy to relate to. As a caretaker, I was able to identify with Elle's parents and their fears for their daughter. As someone who has suffered from depression, I could feel her need to keep moving. keep going. keep moving forward.
This would be a wonderful read for anyone who cares about someone with a mental illness that they don't understand, or for a young person trying to figure themselves out in the midst of a depressive disorder.
