We are classmates that had to chose a selection for a reading assignment in our senior block of Elementary Education at the University of Mississippi. We chose A Child Called It and were swept away. This book takes you into the dark depths of child abuse. David Peltzer does a great job of getting the reader involved and opening up the readers eyes to the harsh reality of child abuse. In this book, you experience the childs highs and lows, his tiumphes and loses in his battle with his deranged mother. You want to be there for the child and free him from his horrible reality. As prospective teachers, we feel that this book will definately help in our awareness of child abuse. This book let us into the life of an abused child and we don't feel that we could allow this to happen to one of our students. This book is sad and riveting at the same time. You will not be able to put it down, we were not. We highly recommend this book and feel as if we are somehow better people for reading it.
