I was really intrigued when my friend suggested this coffee press. But after I saw the price, I had a few second thoughts. But alas, I pushed the button and it was on. I love me some good coffee and can be a sucker (this will come into play in a bit), for the latest greatest coffee "thingamagiggy" that comes down the pike. P.T. Barnum was a damned, genius. Yep, it's idiots like me that keep the Mad Men in business. Anyway, it arrived! Wow (sarcasm), I marveled at all the expensive plastic that went into a $38 coffee press! And so many parts too! That must be why it has the $38 price tag! And after reading supplied instructions, I was off to make some coffee! Heated up the H20 and ground some good "Larry's Beans" and did "the deed". But the instructions... ahhh, the instructions, were, ah, shall we say incomplete? Why then are there all these lines on the push tube? Yeah, yeah, so I can add water for more cup's? Yes, that must be it. The instructions did not explain that very well indeed, must be that danged ole expensive ink and pulp deal. Ahh, my bad. But, let's get back to the coffee! Okay, so I pushed the plunger and whamo! COFFEEEE! Okay, now the taste! Ahh, Okay. Huh. Mmmm. Well, it tastes just like my $12 coffee press from TJ maxx. So why did I spend $38? Oh, must be for the "cold brew" feature. Fixin to do that here in a minute. But, that would be the ONLY redeemable quality so far. Ah, but wait! I did not address the funnel! It took me a few to figure It out. It’s in fact Not needed. If you use it, you have to remove in order to completely fill up the tube for a full cup of coffee! So why is it necessary? The "small" amount of coffee produced is laughable and a pain the to extract. Easy to miss judge balance when applying downward pressure on the plunger! It can get messy. The toxic free plastic is nice, but not a biggie anymore and certainly does not justify the bloated cost. The "Cold Brew" option? I can just as easily use my cheap bodum, or similar press and get the SAME results, just by just allowing it to sit longer before extraction. So in closing, here are my thoughts to the "creators" of this contraption. Why the price? How about include a "twice as large" unit as well for a more copious amount of coffee if you have the need for more copious amounts of coffee for the same price? Which I do believe would be MOST of us. And Therefore stave off the hassle of having to go thru the process of making another cuppa again because it’s too small. "Pass" is my opinion for this press as I plan on sending it back asap! Critique is cheap and free RD for manufactures to hone the products they sell and I believe there just might be a bit more critique forthcoming from other coffee weirdoes' like me about this press.
Update: just found out I cannot send it back! What?! Amazon has gotten bad about not letting you know things you cannot send back. At least Ebay lets you know upfront. Very disappointed! $38 spent on an exercise in futility. Great. UGH.
