This is a good toothpaste. That said, I wouldn't use it as my only / primary toothpaste.
What it's really good at is counteracting high-sugar foods and killing bacteria. I used to get gum infections about once a year no matter how well I brushed and flossed and scraped my tongue, and my breath was not always the freshest either. But since using this toothpaste several years ago (even though I don't use it as my everyday toothpaste), I don't have infections or bacteria breath problems. The toothpaste leaves teeth nice and slippery / smooth. But I guess this is true of any toothpaste high in xylitol. What seems to be relatively unusual though is that this toothpaste doesn't seem to have a lot of added flavorings. It's just the sweetness of the xylitol, which coincidentally kids really love. (Not all kids like mint, but they all seem to love the sugary taste of xylitol.) I like to use this if I want to clean my teeth but don't want the toothpaste to interfere with the flavor of foods I might be eating later. (On the flip side, the toothpaste won't neutralize strong flavors like onions or garlic.)
There are 2 main reasons I don't use this as my only toothpaste. The first is that it doesn't scrub away stuff quite as well as other toothpastes. Often after using this toothpaste (rarely after using other toothpastes), I notice a bit of stuff left in hard to reach places. The second reason is that for all the potential problems with fluoride, I think (based on trial and error) my teeth simply do better with a bit of fluoride -- so my primary toothpaste has fluoride.
One last note is that the toothpaste -- even when ordered in bulk -- is relatively expensive. I can afford it, but honestly, it probably doesn't make economic sense to use it more than once every few days -- since its benefits last a while.
