I bought this after searching for a similar, if not identical lid I had years ago. They are a comparatively inexpensive solution but do require almost as much cleaning as cheesecloth. They are also better for some seeds than others. if you are growing larger sprouts like lentil or mung bean; no problem. It will work fine and will not cause you much trouble or extra effort. If you are growing smaller seeds like clover or alfalfa they will fall through before they swell and get stuck in the holes (requiring extra rinsing) after. That said, if you are growing a variety of seeds no one size will be perfect.
My biggest issue with this is the cost. really it should (and usually does) cost $1-2. I guess shipping is built in, but that said, if you buy a lot of small things you will be paying a lot more than if you bought it at a store. if you are growing a small amount of sprouts and don't mind spending the time clearing swollen seeds and hulls out of the holes, this is a decent solution. if you are just trying it out and do not know whether or not you are really going to want to do this routinely the same applies. It is a relatively inexpensive way to try growing sprouts (but then, so is cheesecloth and a rubber band).
After growing my first batch with this lid I revised my opinion. It is easier than cheesecloth (with no mold or rot), BUT I had a hard time finding a jar it would fit6 on well. It also is not as good or flexible as the old lid I had (which has a sliding/ adjustable opening. I do think they cost a bit more than they should, but that said, are not very expensive and is likely the best way to go for people who are not sure if they will be sprouting on a regular basis. Among the other advantages in that regard is that it does not take up too much storage space.
In sum, it bests cheesecloth by a little bit, is less costly than dedicated sprouters, but is not as good as another lid I have owned (and costs more than it ought)
