I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. I have read many novels about World War II, but this is the first one that took place in Romania. I thought the setting of the “fortress” was very unusual, as well as were the array of characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and was in awe how these people survived. The novel illustrates how a family can be created not by just blood, but by love. I was especially interested in the latter part of the book where the setting moved out of Romania, but then came back to Romania full circle. I liked the way the author showed what happened to all the characters towards the end of the story. I recommend this book to everyone who likes historical fiction.
