After much reading on the subject of 'First DE Razor' I dialed into the EJ DE89 based mostly on the quality, and desire for a milder DE shaver to start with. So far I am very happy with my choice, the black handle to offset all the chrome bits is very pleasing to the eye, and most importantly does not feel overly slick when wet, it may not be as grippy as a knurled handle, but I have had zero grip issues with the smooth handle. The 3 piece design is dead simple to takedown, and when loaded with a blade, an un-intimidating amount of blade peeks through either side. The razor is hefty in your hand, and using the weight of the razor with very little, or no pressure, is enough to get through all of my toughest stubble and growth (properly prepared face, and proraso green tub certainly helps), down to a smoothly shaved face after a few passes. I could see myself adding a more aggressive razor to my kit after I perfect my technique, but I don't see myself ever getting rid of the EJ.
