Customer Review

This book was difficult for me to rate. I purchased it hoping to find ways of increasing my hubby's veg consumption in a way he'd find palatable. There's not a single recipe I've tried in this book that's bad, but what I have noticed is that the amounts of fruit, even if the smoothies are split between two people, is just too much. For the record, I'm a vegetarian, so it's not like I'm living la vida low carb over here.

An excellent example of this would be the Glowing Green Healer recipe, which calls for 3 cups chopped honeydew, 2 kiwi, 1 banana. Just the honeydew alone represents the RDA total fruit consumption for an entire day for 2 people.

So tasty the recipes may be, but from the nutritional standpoint, unless you're not planning on eating anything else with fruit in it for the rest of your day, it's too much fruit. And for some of the recipes, even if that is your only fruit for the day, it's still too much. And the book is attractive, and well laid out, and I can certainly respect the author's passion for smoothies. But when I make these, I strip out half the fruit, increase the veg, and split it between 4 people, instead of the two each recipe is recommended to serve. Unfortunately, that's the only way I feel like I can nutritionally justify making these.

However, this did spur me to start experimenting and making my own recipes...I figured if I was already having to tinker and tamper, I might as well just start from scratch. So now, if I'm making smoothies for my family, I rarely even use this book.
