Yes, this keyboard is not fully mechanical. Who cares? If you are considering this keyboard, ask yourself how often you use the F keys or whether pressing delete interrupts your typing flow. If you answer "Hardly never" and "it doesn't" read on.
I have now spent a solid 5 weeks with my K60, and I didn't want to write this review until I had at least a month in. So here is my 5 week review:
1. Typing. Typing is good and easy but this keyboard did not improve my wpm, but neither did it diminish (after a week of adjustment that is). I type about 90WPM using both rubber dome and the k60. If you want to improve typing speed look for a cherry mx brown keyboard, or blue. MX reds aren't intended to improve typing speed, so this is really just as expected. 2. Gaming. While it took some getting used to, the K60 has improved my gaming, but only marginally. In the last month I have yet to remember a moment when I felt I had pressed a key but it didn't register. I recall this happening occasionally when using my old rubber dome kb. Not with the K60. It always registers and registers with the very minimalist amount of force. After switching to the K60 the # of frustrating moments has definitely decreased. 3. Build quality. Its great. I don't like how bright the LEDs are for caps lock and num lock, but that is my ONLY beef. Aluminum looks great and using the red colored keys is nice. I just leave them on all the time. If you really can't remember that the ! key is on the 1 (or the $ is on the 4), then print out a list and you'll memorize it within a day. Seriously. Its only 6 keys, jeesh. 4. Value. Is this keyboard worth the $110 I paid for it? I don't think so. Is it worth $90 or less? My opinion is..yes. It feels like it will last forever and is far superior to the competition, namely the razer blackwidow which uses blue switches (which I used for a week before giving it back to the friend with my nose in the air). In addition, I think it is better than most other $110 cherry mx red switch keyboards just because it looks better and comes with media control keys.
Finally, I felt that I had to get a wrist rest for this keyboard putting MY final price at $120. I like wrist rests. If you do as well you might want to consider the K90 which is only ~$20 more, but I don't know how good that wrist rest is, having never used it.
At the current amazon price, I think this keyboard is worth 4 stars. Moving to a mechanical keyboard didn't improve my gaming experience by very much (I'd say 5% at best), but having a keyboard last forever (which I think this one will) combined with no longer feeling those moments of frustration when you are sure you pressed a button and it doesn't register, is worth the price tag. Overall I recommend the K60, just get it on sale.
