Quality game play, but local play has been eliminated.

This installment in The Halo series doesn't disappoint as far as the game play that has made this franchise the icon that it is. The faster frame that the Xbox one provides along with stunning lightsourcing makes this title fast-paced, blur-free eye candy. The two star deduction comes from the elimination of local play and from the ridiculous file size that took the good part of a day to install on 20 megabit download speed. The end user should have more say as to what additional files are part of the download package. The lack of local play is part of a growing trend and smacks of the snobbery that elite purist gamers believe you should buy into. Many a memory was built while playing countless hours of slayer with friends via system link. My kids were heartbroken to find that the game that they waited hours to play with their Dad did not include a local play option.

No Local Co-Op? What a waste of money.

I bought this game because my son and I like playing this game co-op split screen. So imagine my surprise when lo and behold no split screen! Well I could play co-op if I want to buy another Xbox One, another copy of the game, another Xbox Gold account and another TV! Sweet 343 you just lost another customer. Dynamic balbaZbla or not you tossed the most attractive feature of the game for a gimmick. I'm pretty pissed I even bought this game. It's a good thing I waited and only paid $20 for it because it's only half a game as far as I'm concerned, you only deserve half price.

I can't believe this game does not have split screen. I bought it to play with my son, and am now sitting here watching him play it alone. Very, very disappointed. No way for two players to play together on same console.

Halo 5 while it was supposed to be the newest Halo game to try and make the Xbox one superior but instead the game does the opposite and from the trailers I thought we were going to get something new and familiar in the game old vs New conspiracies and the return of the arbiter so I bought the game got a friend to come and play Co-op for the story and thats where the first problem showed theres no Split screen local co-op which sadly sucks and then the game had more problems Microtransactions was also a problem despite the numerous updates and patches this game got the damage was already done and this game is the worst Halo Game

Story/Campaign: Now the story Of Halo 5 is major as the game game expects you to look at the lore and content before playing this game and instead onto the main story
Halo 5: Guardians takes place in the year 2558, and is set eight months after the events of Halo 4 and if you include Halo Spartan ops campaign which was set 6 months after Halo 4 which isn’t taken into account.

Fireteam Osiris comprised of Jameson Locke from Halo Nightfall Gunnery Buck from Halo ODST, Holly Tanaka, and Olympia Vale are on a mission to Jul 'Mdama's splinter Covenant faction-controlled planet of Kamchatka to retrieve the rogue Dr. Halsey, who claims to have information on a series of devastating attacks on several human worlds during a battle between Covenant forces and the Prometheans.(Now theres a problem why are the prometheans and Covenant fighting each other because last I checked during Halo 4 spartan ops they were working together now they aren’t) The team is successful in retrieving Halsey and eliminating the Covenant leader Jul 'Mdama, Halsey informs them that a new threat is about to emerge.
Elsewhere, the Master Chief leads Blue Team comprised of Fred, Kelly, and Linda are on a mission to secure a derelict ONI research station known as Argent Moon. The arrival of a Covenant fleet forces Blue Team to scuttle the station instead but during the sabotage, the Chief receives a cryptic message from Cortana directing him to the planet Meridian. John is ordered to return to Infinity upon destroying Argent Moon but he and Blue Team disobey orders and set out after Cortana, forcing Captain Lasky to list the rogue Spartans as AWOL. This causes consternation aboard Infinity, as Halsey believes that Cortana's survival through the use of Forerunner technology makes her unpredictable and untrustworthy.
Lasky gives Fireteam Osiris the aim of finding and capturing Blue Team. Osiris is deployed to Meridian to pursue Blue Team, where they find a human colony under attack by Promethean forces. During their pursuit, they encounter the Warden Eternal, a Promethean serving as Cortana's enforcer. After temporarily defeating the Warden, Osiris catches up to Blue Team, ordering them to stand down and return to Infinity. Chief bests Locke in hand-to-hand combat and flees with the rest of Blue Team as they board a Guardian, one of several colossal Forerunner constructs built as enforcers of entire worlds. Osiris barely escape the colony's collapse as the Guardian activates and disappears. The Guardian emerges on the Forerunner planet Genesis, where John and Cortana reunite. Cortana says her terminal rampancy was cured by the same Forerunner technology that saved her.
Osiris is deployed to the Sangheili homeworld of Sanghelios, where they plan to use a dormant Guardian that resides there to travel to Blue Team's location, However, the planet is engulfed in civil war; the remaining forces of the Covenant have chosen to make their last stand there. To hurry their mission, Osiris joins forces with the Arbiter and help him strike a crucial blow at the Covenant remnant. Osiris boards a Guardian with the help of Commander Palmer while the Arbiter finishes off the last Covenant troops.
On Genesis, Osiris encounters the planet's caretaker, the artificial intelligence 031 Exuberant Witness, who allies with them to stop Cortana. Osiris catches up to Blue Team, who reveal Cortana is planning on using the Guardians to achieve galactic peace through forcible disarmament. Master Chief, aware of the massive devastation Cortana's plan will cause, attempts to convince Cortana to stand down. She refuses and confines Blue Team in a Forerunner prison, to prevent them from interfering with her plan. Osiris manages to transfer control of Genesis back to Exuberant, who wrests the prison from Cortana as she leaves the planet via a Guardian.
Artificial intelligences across the galaxy begin swearing allegiance to Cortana and her plans. Cortana locates Infinity and prepares to disable it, but Lasky has the ship's AI Roland, who is still loyal to Infinity, engage slipspace away from Earth and commit to random jumps until they can develop a way to combat Cortana. With Blue Team recovered, Osiris returns to Sanghelios to reunite the SPARTAN-IIs with an injured Commander Palmer, Thel'Vadam, and Halsey. If the player completes the game on Legendary, an extra cutscene shows an unknown Halo installation powering up while Cortana hums, before cutting to black.

Now this story fing blows I can sort of see what it looked like what they were trying to do but the story doesn’t make sense or even give us time to learn about our characters or set up elements like the other Halo games did but instead its exposition. I don’t blame the voice actors if anything I blame 343’s story department as I could have given a better story then what they gave us for this game which is why I’m not going to talk about the characters.

Gameplay: Halo 5: Guardians preserves many of the core features of the Halo franchise's gameplay experience of the past. Players step into the MJOLNIR powered armor of a Spartan and control that character's actions. MJOLNIR armor provides deflector shields, which diminish whilst protecting the wearer from weapons fire but recharge after a short recovery. Spartans may only carry two personal weapons at a time, but may swap them out at any time for any other weapon they find (including those dropped by slain enemies) and may also carry and fire a crew-served weapon (discarded when the player switches back to a personal weapon). Spartans may also throw grenades and use their weapons for pistol-whipping. Finally, some of the vehicles and their mounted weapons are available for use.
New to the series are "Spartan Abilities", replacing the Armor Abilities of previous games. In-universe, the characters' MJOLNIR armor has been upgraded with various thrusters that allow them increased mobility options in all three axes of movement. They are context-dependent and can be used for attack, defense and evasion. Additionally, all Halo 5 firearms can be aimed by looking down their iron sights, a capability restricted to specific weapons in previous games.
Previous games in the series have featured brief gameplay segments where the player character is accompanied by non-player character (NPC) companions in the form of United Nations Space Command (UNSC) Marines, non-human allies like the Arbiter, and other Spartans but in Halo 5 also equips the player with a persistent fireteam of NPC Spartans, who are present at all times and can receive limited orders using the Xbox controller. During cooperative play, other players assume control of these Spartans; each Spartan has different gameplay attributes. If any Spartan, player-controlled or not, takes too much damage, they enter an incapacitated state, and a teammate must rush over and revive them before they die. Sadly the lack of Local Multiplayer and the stupid REQ microtransaction system is also stupid to consider and sadly this hurts the game to the extent of every playing it

Music: Sataro Tojima was the audio director for Halo 5: Guardians with Japanese composer Kazuma Jinnouchi composing the original score. Jinnouchi wanted to reintroduce the original Halo theme in Halo 5: Guardians, so he composed his own interpretation of the piece. A larger emphasis has been placed on the use of a choir in Halo 5: Guardians' music than Halo 4's. Even though we have an original tune sadly the music is not as memorable as Martin O'Donnell’s music classic Halo games from Bungie

How I think this game was meant to be told or I would’ve told: Now the story of Halo 5 Guardians I think should have been told would have been told
The game should have introduced fire team Osiris as a new team of Spartans meant to replace Blue team with Locke being a spartan under orders by O.N.I which he follows no matter what he is given and then we start with the first mission as Master Chief being reunited with his friends going on a mission to argent moon with the loss of Cortana still fresh in his mind and much like the second mission he gets a message from cortana and he then later informs infinity on a mission to Meridian with Lasky denying it but chief and blue team go anyway. then we get the mission of fire team Osiris completing a successful mission and battle against Jul 'Mdama's forcing his covenant promethean forces to retreat and rescuing Dr. Halsey. Word then gets out from O.N.I that the Master Chief his team have gone Awol and disobeyed orders with Lasky informing the crew of the infinity of the mission to bring the chief back alive while O.N.I secretly gives Locke permission to kill the Master Chief if bringing him back is impossible. Team Osiris goes to Meridian where they find a human colony under attack by Promethean forces and no covenant. During their pursuit they encounter the Warden Eternal a Promethean enforcer who serves to protect the Guardian under the orders of someone in the domain. After temporarily defeating the Warden Osiris catches up to Blue Team ordering them to stand down and return to Infinity.The Master Chief and Locke have a battle with locke firing one round from his pistol at the chief. Chief bests Locke in hand-to-hand combat and flees with the rest of Blue Team as they board a Guardian, one of several colossal Forerunner constructs built as enforcers of entire worlds. Osiris barely escape the colony's collapse as the Guardian activates and disappears. The Guardian emerges on the Forerunner planet Genesis. Blue team begins to scout the area with Master chief as they pick up a faint familiar signal as they then meet up with the Warden who tells them he is service to an old friend of Master Chief making them realise but find it impossible. Meanwhile a huge argument breaks out on the infinity as the soldiers of the UNSC don’t want to work with fire team Osiris when the mission was to bring Master chief back alive not shoot him with Buck questioning Locke’s actions with everyone disagreeing and Palmer states she believed Locke was in the right with Locke reporting his actions to Lasky and wanting permission for Fire Team Osiris deployment to the Sangheili homeworld of Sanghelios, where they plan to use a dormant Guardian that resides there to travel to Blue Team's location. However the planet is engulfed in civil war; the remaining forces of the Covenant and Jul 'Mdama have chosen to make their last stand there. To hurry their mission, Osiris joins forces with the Arbiter and help him strike a crucial blow at the Covenant remnant but during the battle the Warden appears and the promethean soldiers turn on the covenant and Jul ’Mdama. Osiris boards a Guardian with the help of Commander Palmer while the Arbiter finishes off the last Covenant troops. On Genesis Osiris encounters the planet's caretaker the artificial intelligence 031 Exuberant Witness who allies with them to stop the one who awakened the Guardians. Osiris catches up to Blue Team who reveal the one who awakened the Guardians is to achieve galactic peace through forcible disarmament. Master Chief unaware of what's happening is teleported with the rest of Blue team reuniting with Cortana. Cortana says her terminal rampancy was cured by the same Forerunner technology that saved her. The Warden begins sending his forces including himself to attack Fire team Osiris while sending a small number of his forces to attack Blue team and protect Cortana. Master Chief attempts to convince Cortana to stand down. She refuses and confines Blue Team in a Forerunner prison to prevent them from interfering with her plan and to protect them after seeing the chief’s damaged Visor from Locke.
Osiris manages to transfer control of Genesis back to Exuberant after fighting through The Warden’s forces who wrests the prison from Cortana as she leaves the planet via a Guardian. Artificial intelligences across the galaxy begin swearing allegiance to Cortana and her plans. Cortana locates Infinity and prepares to disable it but Lasky has the ship's AI Roland who is still loyal to Infinity engage slipspace away from Earth and commit to random jumps until they can develop a way to combat Cortana as Cortana uses the Guardians powerful EMP on Earth shutting down all systems on ships of both O.N.I and the UNSC. With Blue Team recovered, Osiris returns to Sanghelios to reunite the SPARTAN-IIs with an injured Commander Palmer, Thel'Vadam, and Halsey.

Sadly this game has been given lots of flack and problem and I can’t give it a solid 10/10 despite it being a Halo game so I have to give it a 4/10 which is not very interesting and I would suggest playing The Master Chief Collection over this game considering its more interesting despite it being a “Mega Collection” type game.

As far as playing by yourself goes, its a great game. Although some of the multiplayer maps look somewhat, not sure how to describe it, maybe blocky/cartoonish in the color schemes and it doesnt feel as immersive as halo 4 did because of that. Lots of varieties in the guns though which is exciting and fun. But ultimately, the lack of splitscreen was just too much of a detractor from the experience to motivate me to continue playing. I thought I would not mind it a whole lot and would still be able to enjoy it without it, but I've realized that splitscreen is the primary reason I play Halo. So if you just want a space shooter with multiplayer, I would recommend this game. However, that was not what I personaly was looking for.

Better than Halo 4 (but that's not saying much) the story is a fun ride, but nonsensical. If you turn your brain off and get over the onslaught on Canon, you'll enjoy yourself more. Arbiter returns, which is cool, but he's not playable.

My main issue with this game is that it was falsely advertised. The trailers for this game are a complete lie and have nothing to do with the actual product. Which I assume is because 343 is such a sloppy studio they changed their whole game late into development.

It's a better campaign than Halo 4, but there's no splitscreen so it's actually worse for multiplayer purposes. Though the Co-op is decent. The online multiplayer is meh, but it's been going downhill since Reach soI can;t really act surprised.

If you spend more than 10 bucks on this you're gonna feel ripped off, but the story mode is surprisingly long, and has well-animated cutscenes even if the story makes little sense. At the end of the day it's a better shooter than most just because it has Halo's DNA, but Halo 3, 2, 1, ODST, and Reach are all better.

Still, being the 2nd worst of a fantastic game series isn't so bad. it's like being 5 place at the olympics. You're still an olympian.
