I am enjoying this little guy immensely and I'm pleased with the purchase overall.

I initially ordered this Amazon Refurbished, which turned out to be a mistake. The refurbed stick they sent me appeared to be like new, but the joystick didn't work. It took about two weeks to process the return and get the refund, which was a little bit irritating. So don't be tempted by the $15 discount for a referb. You might get lucky, or you might have to go through a bit of a hassle. To be fair, it was pretty convenient that the UPS guys just came to the door and picked up my package for me, but the wait was annoying.

I didn't really buy this stick to play fighting games, and I suppose that if that's what you want out of this stick, you might be disappointed. I bought this stick because my carpel tunnel has advanced to the point that it's hard for me to hold a normal controller. I chose this fight stick because it has a joystick toggle switch, which allows you to change the joystick function from left stick to right stick to d-pad as you see fit. I couldn't find any other fight sticks at this price point with this feature. I have been using the stick to play action RPGs like Exist Archive and Dragon's Crown, and it works very well for this purpose. I also had no trouble getting my Steam Link to recognize the controller, and I was able to play Hyper Light Drifter with it, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get Steam to map the toggle switch. It might be possible, and I'm going to keep messing around with it.

I am a relatively small human with very small hands and a small lap, so I think that this stick is the perfect size for me. It's very comfortable on my lap and it has a surprising heft for its size. I don't know the difference between these buttons and the apparently very exciting Sanwa buttons, but I like these buttons very much. I think that if you are a larger human, this might not be the stick for you. I have included a hand/stick photo for reference.

Entry level stick that leaves much to be desired

Not a big fan of this one. As an owner of the original TE stick and a TE2 stick for PS4, I had high hopes for this little portable fightstick. The joystick and buttons felt kinda cheap and I wasn't very happy with the padding underneath. When used on a table the stick was way too light and would slide around too much (padding is not very grippy at all). On my lap, the stick would also move around way too much while playing due to how light it is.
As an entry level product, I don't think this would give a very good first impression to a player that's new to fightsticks. Mad Catz would have done better to offer product like their original SE fightstick at an affordable price.

Also, if you wish to mod the stick with some better quality parts then you'll need some soldering skills as the wires are directly soldered to the buttons. I already knew this when purchasing the product, but I returned the stick shortly after testing it out of the box so I didn't even bother to try and mod it. Hopefully, Mad Catz releases a better version that's heavier and of higher quality.

I'm never sure what to make of Mad Catz products. They used to be sort of the premier third-party controller company back in the day but nearly everything I've bought by them in recent years has been something of a failure – their Fightstick Alpha being no exception. Following about 3 months of VERY light use (I can only play so often) and maybe a total of 12-15 gaming sessions, my Fightstick simply stopped working altogether. It clearly wasn't a mechanical failure, it just refused to do anything at all: all lights black, no response, no connection, etc. I searched around various forums and found that I wasn't alone – its known to have a few defects. Given that my warranty had expired a few days before, I shrugged, moved on, bought an alternate stick. Take my advice, skip this one and spring for another $20-$50 more, you'll be glad you did. I'd love nothing more than to have the Mad Catz of old back, but I won't hold my breath that'll happen anytime soon.

The best mini stick around

For it's small size this fight stick is pretty impressive, don't let the mini form factor turn you off. I don't play fighters too seriously, so I wasn't looking for a high quality tournament style stick.

It is quite light though the all plastic construction is solid, the case does not give to pressure or feel like it will break from easy use despite initially using it.

Buttons are full size and personally I never use more than the 6 buttons so losing the extra 2 bigger sticks have was actually preferred. I have average sized hands so it never felt like I had no space to be efficient with the stick, just can't spread out as much until you get accustomed to the size.

I have mainly been using this on Street Fighter 5 on PC, and came across no functionality issues. After a dozen hours the buttons still feel responsive, while the stick sometimes seemed at times to not always respond. Could be my still getting used to the game or being in the panic of a match that I just don't input correctly. I find it best to set the controller on a pillow on my lap or wedge between my knees, just need to find what works.

While the stock buttons still felt passable for casual play I decided to upgrade everything. I installed all Sanwa buttons and joystick. It did require some extra work but still wasn't too tough. To keep it simple I just cut the existing wire and crimped on quick connects and reattach, no soldering mess all for under $40.

All told I'm happy with this stick for arcade games, shmups and fighters even if I didn't customize it. If you have big hands or take fighters real serious then I'd suggest the higher end models, otherwise give this one an honest chance.

Great PS4 / PC stick

The buttons feel a little squishy when compared to a more expensive sticks however for the price, this little thing can't be beat.
The stick itself feels great but I wish it was positioned a little further away from the edge like most larger sticks.
My only con is that it doesn't seem to fit in your lap very well and can move around since the base is not very wide.
This stick is plug and play for PC which is mainly why I grabbed it.
