Solid game by Remedy with a nice collector's presentation with one flaw.

This review is for the PC Collector's edition more then the game itself. The game I would give an 8/10 and its worth a purchase. The collector's edition is beautiful with a nice behind the scenes hardcover art book with story on Remedy. It comes with the Soundtrack and Blu Ray behind the scenes. Plus 5 other DVD discs to install the game on your PC. It also has a STEAM key which will update your game. You don't have to install from the DVDs but it makes it quicker then downloading the data from STEAM by itself. The paper DVD holder has chinsy plastic holding the discs. Mine was not broken but as a collector it could get broke very easily then you will have a useless holder. My suggestion, pull out the discs and store then elsewhere. Don't keep taking them in and out of the sleeve or else you will break the little springy plastic pieces inside. I paid $30 on Amazon for this and worth every penny. As of the time of this review it was down another $2 to $28 (which peeves me off a little). Amazon is getting difficult to time. My suggestion, buy it for anywhere up to $32. The retail of $40 is a smidge to high. Great collector's piece but because of the 8/10 on the gameplay and the chinsy disc holder, I gave this package a 4/5 stars. Laslty, this thing is a beast on size and PC demands. If you are rocking an old computer (even if you have windows 10), buy it on xBox One instead. Its $33 on Amazon as I write this review. If you are like me and love collector's boxes and artwork and behind the scenes, then buy the hardcover strategy guide as well. I got that for $14 on eBay but its well worth $20-$25 if you can pick it up on Amazon. It has an origins story on Remedy and a good read outside a strategy guide.

The most unique game of at least the past 3 decades, and undoubtedly a top tenner for all "time". ;)

*NO SPOILERS*

All we're going to say is that this game is just fantastic, and this is the version to have. This version of Quantum Break being the "Timeless Collector's Edition" is different from purchasing the version originally offered through the Microsoft Windows Store. It's validated through a Steam Account; however it "might" be able to be installed completely standalone (we haven't tried a 100% standalone install, and were happy to have it in our Steam Library). Here are the differences:

Windows 8/8.1 & 10 Version via the Microsoft Store;

1 - Does support DirectX 12; however bear in mind DirectX 12 still doesn't work well because of its Visual C based programming backend, and still has extremely serious bugs if running nVidia SLI or AMD Crossfire configurations.

2 - Cannot be run by an executable file ( file with a name ending in " .exe " that is used to start most programs on PC with exception to the barely functional Visual C based AppX / UWC Application platform that requires access to the Microsoft Windows Store.

3 - The Microsoft Windows Store is terribly unreliable because with each Windows Update that include the major updates provided every 6 months by Microsoft ( i.e. "Spring Creators' Update" , "Fall Creators' Update" , 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709, 1803, etc. ) will often corrupt most of the dependencies of the AppX / UWC applications to the point of making the Microsoft Windows Store completely inaccessible. In short; the preceding issues CAN keep the game from running at all; thus stalling the Quantum Break experience entirely.

Standalone Install / Steam Version ( a.k.a. "Timeless Edition" );

1 - Is DirectX 11 Compatible by default; however can be made to use DirectX 12 by adding " -dx12 " to either the shortcut's target field with a space between the " ...[INSTALL PATH HERE]\QuantumBreak.exe" " , and the " -dx12 " switch ( i.e. the last sections of the target field in the shortcut would look like " ...[{QUOTE CHARACTER|DRIVE LETTER PROMPT} REST OF INSTALL PATH HERE]\QuantumBreak.exe" -dx12 ".

2 - Does NOT succumb to random inaccessibility due to Microsoft's observably poor management of continued development of their Visual C, AppX / UWC , and other Windows 8/8.1 & Windows 10 AppX / UWC applications such as the Microsoft Windows Store.

3 - Works wonderfully with either nVidia SLI or AMD Crossfire hardware configurations.

The Timeless Edition also offers a number of special features and collector's items that include a Blu-Ray detailing the immense level of story and artistic development that went into the making of Quantum Break, the video segments included. A minor drawback of the included Blu-Ray is that it does NOT function very well when navigating the menus using a PC Blu-Ray player program such as Corel's WinDVD or the popular PowerDVD Player by Cyberlink, so it will be best to play it in a traditional Blu-Ray player instead (physical non-computer hardware Blu-Ray player connected to the Home Theater or TV).

Every single collectible offered in the Timeless Edition is well worth a read, and/or a view depending on which of them you're into.

Additionally, while Quantum Break may not be returning for a much needed continuation of its story in the near future; it is however unlikely that this won't happen at all because despite the popularly believed rumor that Remedy gave up its rights to Quantum Break and its content, the truth is that Remedy does still have the rights to Quantum Break's story, and ALL of its content.

With the above being said, Quantum Break offers what is possibly THE MOST UNIQUE story line of any game produced in the past 30 years. If you've been gaming since at least the early 1980's, you know what I'm talking about, and younger players (teenagers at a minimum because this game is rated "Mature" , and parents are encouraged to deal with their children as individuals with the discretion that is right for their child regarding "M" rated games) will also agree on precisely how unique Quantum Break's story is. If story's not your thing, well, it's still one of the best action games ever made too.

If you've considered getting Quantum Break, the Timeless Edition is the version to get.

Take a break from save the princess, blow up the evil aliens, take a "Quantum Break" ! :D

I absolutely loved the graphics on this

I absolutely loved the graphics on this. It's no Crysis with regard to photo-realism, but it's still pretty good and the effects that you see are mighty impressive. I normally only see such uniqueness from the demo scene.
My only gripe on graphics was not being able to use SLI. Because of that, I had to make some minor adjustments to keep the framerate high on my ultrawide monitor.

The gameplay was pretty cool throughout. I'll probably go back and play it again someday and make different choices. I don't care for the streaming videos due to many different reasons, but the big one is that we can be assured some day they won't be available. For a collector's edition, I would have really expected the videos to be included.

Some of the gameplay was a bit complex with regard to the key combinations that you had to use to do certain special moves. I found myself just sticking with a few things and became good at them in order to dispose of enemies with ease.

I found the final boss to be pretty difficult and I almost gave up completely on the game a few times. Compared to the rest of the game, this final battle really seemed to be a miss-step. I don't think they put enough thought into it. Considering my previous statement of somewhat skating through the game my mastering just a few things, it is possible that I am supposed to master ALL the stuff in order to win the final battle more easily. Either way, I was somewhat annoyed.
