Textbook Tax Exemptions and Tax Refunds

Students may be eligible to request a tax refund on their purchases of textbooks.

Eligible students living in a state or US territory listed below can request a tax refund on their textbook purchases. To request a refund, please provide details of your order, including your order ID and e-mail address associated to your Amazon account and the required documentation outlined for your applicable state or US territory. You can submit your request directly to Customer Service.

New York Exemption Form ST-121.4 New York Textbook Exemption Certificate, or the following:

Puerto Rico Exemption applies to e-textbooks only. Need to provide a book list or syllabus. Rentals (physical or digital) are not included in the exemption.
Rhode Island No form required; Please contact customer service

Note: Exemption request will only be applied to used textbooks per Rhode Island Regulation SU-87-39

Tennessee No form required;; Please contact customer service
