With the Kindle Personal Documents Service, you can send personal documents over Wi-Fi to your Kindle Fire 2nd Generation at no cost.

E-mail a Document to your Device

Your Kindle Fire 2nd Generation has a unique Send-to-Kindle e-mail address that you can use to send documents to that device.

Documents that you send to your Kindle Fire appear in the Docs library. Your Send-to-Kindle e-mail address appears under the Cloud tab of Docs.

  1. From Home, tap Docs, and then tap Cloud. Note the e-mail address for your Kindle Fire.
  2. E-mail a personal document to that e-mail address. They will appear on the Device tab of Docs on your Kindle Fire.
Tip: You can change settings for your Send-to-Kindle e-mail address on the Manage Your Kindle page, under Your Kindle Account > Personal Document Settings.

Add a Document from your Computer

You can use the USB cable that was included with your Kindle to transfer a document from your computer to your Kindle Fire 2nd Generation.

The Docs library supports the following file types: .azw, .txt, .pdf, .mobi, .prc, .doc, and .docx.

  1. Connect your Kindle Fire to your computer with a USB cable. Your Kindle Fire will appear in the same location on your computer that external USB drives appear.
    • Windows: Your Kindle Fire will appear in the Computer or My Computer folder.
    • Mac: Your Kindle will appear on the desktop.
Note: If you've set a Lock Screen Password on your Kindle Fire, you may need to unlock your device before it can be opened on your computer.
  2. Open the Kindle Fire drive, and then select the Internal storage folder.
  3. Locate the Documents folder, and then drag and drop your document into the folder.
  4. Disconnect your Kindle Fire from your computer.
  5. From your Kindle Fire, tap Docs, and then tap the Device tab to view your personal document.

Access a Document on Amazon Cloud Drive

If you place documents on Amazon Cloud Drive, you can access them from your Kindle Fire 2nd Generation.

  1. On your computer, go to www.amazon.com/clouddrive. Sign in if prompted.
Note: Be sure to use the same Amazon.com account that you used to register your Kindle Fire.
  2. Click the Documents folder, and then click Upload Files.
  3. Click Your Cloud Drive, and then select a destination folder for your files.
  4. Click Select files to upload, and then select the files you want to upload. This adds the document to Amazon Cloud Drive.
  5. On your Kindle Fire, from Home tap Docs.
  6. Tap Cloud. You should see your document. Tap to download and open. Your document will then appear on the Device tab to access offline.
  7. If you don't see your document, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Sync.
