Buy and Download Games and Apps

You can search for and purchase games and mobile apps in the Amazon Appstore on your Fire tablet. Help for Kindle Fire HD (3rd Generation), Kindle Fire HDX 7" (3rd Generation), and Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" (3rd Generation).

To successfully purchase games and apps from the Amazon Appstore, you'll need to set up your 1-Click payment method. Your 1-Click payment method must be a credit or debit card issued by a bank with a valid billing address. U.S. customers are not required to have a credit or debit card or Amazon.com Gift Cardwhen purchasing free apps or games.

Note: Some games and apps offer in-app purchasing. To turn off in-app purchasing, from your Apps library, swipe from the left edge of the screen and tap Settings. Tap In-App Purchasing, and then uncheck the box next to Allow In-App Purchasing.

From Home, tap Apps or Games, and then tap Store.
Locate the app or game you want to buy:
- In the Search field, type your search terms, and then tap the magnifying glass.
- To narrow your search, swipe from the left edge of the screen, and then tap Browse Categories, Recommended for You, Best Sellers, or New Releases.
Tap the button displaying the price (if it's a paid app or game) or tap FREE (if it's a free app or game), and then tap Get App.
- If you're purchasing a paid app or game, you can complete your purchase using Amazon Coins or your 1-Click payment method. After you buy an app or game, it automatically downloads and installs to your Fire tablet.
Tap Open to view your app or game. If a License Agreement appears, carefully read the agreement, and then tap Agree to accept the terms and conditions.

Tip: You can give Amazon Coins as a gift or redeem gifted Amazon Coins from your Fire tablet. To give Coins as a gift, from the Appstore, swipe from the left edge of the screen and tap Give Coins. Follow the on-screen instructions to choose the number of Coins you would like to give as a gift, provide your gift recipient's information, and add a gift message. To redeem Coins you received as a gift, open the email you received and tap the link to open the Appstore, and then tap Claim Now.

After you purchase an app or game, it will automatically update when the developer releases a new software version for the app. If the app or game requires new permissions, you will be asked to visit the Amazon Appstore on your Fire tablet to manually update the app or game. To manually update an app, swipe from the left edge of the screen in the Amazon Appstore, and then tap App Updates. Tap Update next to the app you want to update, or tap Update All to download the latest version for all apps in your account.

Tip: You can sync your game progress for supported games across other Amazon devices by enabling Whispersync for Games. Whispersync for Games saves your game data in the Amazon Cloud so you can pick up from where you left off on another device. To enable Whispersync for Games on your Fire tablet, tap Games, and then swipe from the left edge of the screen. Tap Settings, and then tap ON next to Whispersync for Games.
