Devices and Apps Compatible with Family Library

With Family Library, you can share select eligible content with the other members of your Amazon Household on compatible Amazon devices and applications.

Kindle E-Readers

You can access eligible content shared through Family Library and child profiles using Kindle FreeTime on the following devices:

  • Kindle Paperwhite (5th Generation)
  • Kindle e-reader models (6th Generation and newer)

On the following devices, you must first enable access to share content:

  • Kindle Keyboard (3rd Generation)
  • Kindle Touch (4th Generation)
  • Kindle (5th Generation)

Tip: You must have the latest software version on your device to manage Family Library features.

Go to Manage Your Content and Devices, select Your Devices, click the Actions button next to your device, and choose the Show [ADULT’S] content option under Family Library. You cannot access child profiles using Amazon FreeTime or manage Family Library settings from these devices. Devices that require enabling:

Fire Tablets

You can access eligible content shared through Family Library and child profiles using Amazon FreeTime on Fire tablets (3rd Generation and later).

On 2nd Generation tablets, you must first enable access to shared Family Library content. Go to Manage Your Content and Devices, select Your Devices, click the Actions button next to your device, and choose the Show [Adult's] content option under Family Library. You cannot manage Family Library settings from 2nd Generation devices.

Tip: You must have the latest software version on your device to manage Family Library features.

Kindle Reading Apps

You cannot access child profiles using Amazon FreeTime or manage Family Library settings from Kindle reading apps.

Important: Family Library sharing is turned off by default for the Kindle reading apps.

To enable Family Library:


  1. Open your browser and go to Manage Your Content and Devices
  2. Click the Your Devices tab.
  3. Click the Actions [...] button next to the device where you want to share content.
  4. Check the box that says Show [Adult's] content.

Fire Phone

You can access supported content shared through Family Library on Fire phone, but you cannot access child profiles using Amazon FreeTime or manage Family Library settings.

Amazon Fire TV

You can access eligible content shared through Family Library. On certain Fire TV devices you can access child profiles. You cannot manage Family Library settings from Fire TV devices.

Amazon FreeTime and Family Library sharing is not available on the following devices:

  • Fire TV Stick
  • Fire TV (3rd Generation)
  • Amazon Fire TV Edition TV

Alexa Devices

You can access eligible content shared through Family Library and manage Amazon FreeTime settings.

Amazon FreeTime and Family Library sharing is not available on the following Alexa devices:

  • Amazon Tap
  • Echo Look
  • Echo Show
  • Echo Spot
