Fire TV Stick Hardware Basics

Hardware Description

Fire TV Stick

Fire TV Stick Ports

Fire TV Stick includes a micro-USB port (for power only) and an HDMI connector.

The HDMI connector goes directly into your TV or into the included HDMI extender or adapter.

Note: Fire TV Stick only supports HDMI output.

USB Cable and Power Adapter

Powering Your Device

The USB cable connects your Fire TV Stick to a power source. Plug one end of the cable into the micro-USB port on your Fire TV Stick and the other end into the included power adapter and a power outlet.

You can also plug the cable into a powered USB port on your TV, but we recommend using the included power adapter for optimal performance. Avoid connecting Fire TV Stick to your TV through an unpowered HDMI hub or switch, as this can affect the device's power consumption.

Note: You can't use the USB port to connect Fire TV Stick to computers or other devices.

Turning Your Device Off

You can turn your device off by unplugging the USB cable from the power source, or disconnecting your Fire TV Stick from your TV.

However, you don't need to turn Fire TV Stick off when you're done using it. The device is designed to conserve energy by automatically going into sleep mode after 30 minutes. While in sleep mode, it continues to receive important software updates.

To exit sleep mode, just press any button on your Fire TV remote.

HDMI Adapter

Included with Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote

The included HDMI adapter helps to make sure that your Fire TV Stick fits securely into your TV.

Tip: For best results, we recommend using the included HDMI adapter with an HDMI cable (purchased separately), which can optimize the physical location of your device and improve Wi-Fi connectivity.

HDMI Extender Cable

Included with Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote & Fire TV Stick (1st Generation)

Use the included HDMI extender to optimize the physical location of your device, and make sure that it fits securely into your TV. The HDMI extender may also improve your Wi-Fi connection.

To use, plug your Fire TV Stick into the HDMI extender, and then plug the HDMI extender into an available HDMI port on your TV.
