Send SMS Messages with Alexa

Use your supported Echo device and the Alexa app to send SMS messages through your mobile phone.

Note: Sending SMS messages with Alexa is only available on Android phones (5.0 or higher).

To enable SMS messaging in the Alexa app:

  1. Sign up for Alexa Calling and Messaging in the Alexa app.
  2. Select the Conversations icon conversations button.
  3. Select the Contacts icon, and then select My Profile.
  4. Toggle to enable or disable.

You can send SMS messages to anyone in your contact list, including international contacts. Just say, "Text (contact name)," or "Text (cell number)." The SMS contains a text transcript and a link to your voice message. This feature uses your existing mobile phone service, so carrier charges may apply.

Note: Sending group messages, picture and video messages, and contacting emergency services aren't supported.
