Send SMS Messages with Alexa

Use your supported Echo device to send SMS messages through your mobile phone to your friends and family.

The optional Send SMS feature allows you to ask Alexa to send SMS messages through your Alexa-enabled devices. Alexa sends the SMS messages using your mobile phone. Carrier charges may apply. The feature is only available for customers with Android phones.

To send an SMS message using an Echo device:

  1. Sign up for Alexa Calling and Messaging in the Alexa app.
  2. Select the Conversations icon conversations button.
  3. Select Contacts.
  4. Select My Profile.
  5. Enable Send SMS and accept the permission.
  6. Say, "Send an SMS to [contact name]."

Please note that text-to-911, group messages, and MMS (picture and video messages) aren't supported.

You can disable Send SMS through your contact card in the Alexa app.

The SMS contains a text transcript and a link to your voice message.
