Kindle Fire HD volume control issue

By Jennifer, 26-Sep-2012 06:48 America/Los_Angeles Permalink Report abuse

I own the Kindle Fire HD 7", and I am having issues with the volume control. I can physically move the volume bar up and down, as well as see the change when I use the top buttons; however, the volume itself does not actually change. It is stuck at a particular level and will not adjust lower or higher. I have tried adjusting the volume in the main settings area, while playing music, via the drop down menu, and even the two top buttons. And while the volume bar indicates that the sound should be decreasing/increasing, the pitch stays the same.

Any ideas, or is it time for an exchange?

Hi Jennifer, I'm sorry to hear about the problem you've run into with the volume control on your Kindle Fire HD. I'd suggest restarting the device, since it will clear out any software issues that could be preventing your speakers from playing correctly.

Here are the steps:
1. Be sure to unplug your Kindle from any power source.
2. Hold the power button for a full 20 seconds (Ignoring the shut down message).
3. Press the power button again to reboot your device.

After your Kindle reboots, go ahead and check the volume controls again to make sure the issue has cleared up. If it hasn't, please post back to let us know!

Hi Amber, I think getting in touch with our Kindle Support team would be a good option for you at this point. Just use the yellow "Contact Us" button to the right of this page and you'll be put in touch with a Kindle Specialist who can go through this with you in real time.

Come on back to let us know how this works out!

Everyone keeps referring to volume control and rocker switch to increase the volume, but I can't find either. Can you help me find something to increase the volume on my Kindle Fire, please?

On my Fire 7" HD I have no volume control whatsoever, if on Pandora it is about midway (no bar even showing) and can do nothing, neither up or down, again no volume bar shows at all...thoughts..

I have a somewhat different problem with my volume buttons. I had my Kindle Fire HD 7" in my briefcase, along with my lunch. The lid came off the lunch and bbq sauce got on the device. I cleaned it up the best I could and everything works fine except for the volume buttons. They are totally unresponsive. I assume sauce got in there and is gumming up the works. Does anyone know if there's some way it can be cleaned? I've been using the pull-down volume setting, but it would be nice if I could get the buttons working again. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Factory reset seemed to clear up this problem for a few hours, maybe overnight, but it's very definitely back now. Feels like a hardware problem with the physical switches to me.

I also have a kindle and today all of a sudden it starts increasing the volume, it tends to do it when I put it down.

Edit - I let my Kindle recharge and it seemed to have helped the situation

Note This issue seems to have occurred since the last Kindle updates June 7th 2013

I'm also having an issue with the volume maxing out all by itself. Anybody got a solution? Rebooting doesn't fix it.

If you are under warrenty, call amazon, they will ask you to do a factory reset. If yours is like mine the issue will show it self immediately and they will send you a new kindle

I have the same problem. I also have a blue background home screen with Books, Videos, Apps, Characters at the top, but there is no content. When I try and go into settings it asks me for my parental controls password.

I have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" and just today for some reason I cannot get any of my earbuds to work in my Kindle. I use my earbuds in my Kindle every single day and for some reason today they won't work. Any idea why or has this happened to anyone else?
