Diane - Try rebooting it.

Since you do not specify which Kindle you have, here are instructions for rebooting all models:

For the Fire:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for 30 seconds (count them).
Press the power button again to turn it back on.
The "kindle fire" screen will appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

For e-ink Kindles:
For 2nd Generation, Keyboard Kindle, Basic Kindle, Touch Kindle and DX Kindle:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Kindle.
Slide the power switch over (or press the power button) for 30 seconds (count them).
PUT IT DOWN AND DON'T TOUCH IT. It may take a few minutes to reboot.
Then turn on wireless and your books and Collections will repopulate.

For 1st Generation Kindles:
Leave it plugged in. Slide the cover off the back, and insert a paper clip or similar tool into the reset hole on the back.

So how do you "slide the cover off the back?" My Kindle worked on Friday and Saturday night it is on to the "save" screen of one of the author's pictures. If I push the page change it will show 1 of 14, 2 of 14 etc. on the bottom as though it is trying to show the index. The picture on the front is nearly whited out with lots of white lines. My Kindle is 3G with keyboard on bottom. It was purchased in December 2010.

Margaret - You don't slide the cover off the back for a Keyboard Kindle. That is only for the 1st generation Kindle (sold in 2007). Use the proper instructions above for your model.

I'm with Beata....I have charged, recharged, held it in off for many seconds. I'm awaiting a call from Amazon to see if there is a way out. I've had this since Dec. 2010 so it seems "young" to be dying.

This is exactly the same problem I am having. Any luck figuring out a solution?
