Paperwhite: Unable to delete bookmarks, My Clippings

17 replies Sort by

By Barry L. Kohler, 21-Jan-2013 16:46 America/Los_Angeles Permalink Report abuse

I do not seem to be able to delete bookmarks which appear in My Clippings. When I tap the top of the screen, it keeps adding bookmarks (same one) even when I tap "Delete Bookmark."

Is there any way to delete them in bulk (I have several for the same page) and would like to delete all at once.

Thank you.

You can copy the My Clippings file to your computer and edit it. Copy it back to your Kindle when you finish.

You can also delete My Clippings (and lose all your bookmarks, highlights, and notes). Your Kindle will create a new My Clippings when necessary.

The My Clippings file is just a read-only text copy of your bookmarks and notes. The actual bookmarks, highlights, and notes are stored in internal files attached to each book.

To delete bookmarks, open the book, tap the top of the page to bring up the controls, tap the Menu icon, then View Notes & Marks. Hold your finger on a bookmark for a moment, then tap Delete.

Hi Ann--

Very helpful. Thank you. I successfully deleted the bookmark within the book. But the My Clippings still shows 4 instances of the same erroneously entered bookmark, just with different time stamps as I was trying to delete them.

Any way to clean up My Clippings?

Thank you, --Barry

Can you tell me specifically HOW to delete My Clippings?

You can just delete the file, if you don't need it. Doing so won't affect the bookmarks and such in your actual books. Delete it the same way you'd remove a book or any other downloaded content - On the Home page, hold your finger on the title (or cover) for a moment, until a context menu appears, then tap the remove or delete option.

If you want to remove just the bookmarks you made in the My Clippings file itself, do it the same way you would within a book - tap the top of the screen, tap Menu > View Notes & Marks, then delete each bookmark.

Thank you so much. I was about to lose my mind, I had so many erroneous bookmarks and highlights I no longer wanted. I love being able to keep track of these things. It's good to know it's just a text file on your Kindle that can be edited on your computer. Whew!!

I'm having the same problem, but the help here is not working for me because "View the Notes and Marks" does not appear when I tap the Menu icon when I am in the book. How can this be? Can anyone help me figure this out please?

J. Gunnarsen -

The easiest way to delete a bookmark is to tap the upper right corner of the screen when you are on the bookmarked page. The small triangle will go away.

While reading a book tap the top-center of the screen. The option bars should appear. The menu icon is three horizontal bars at the upper right. Tap that icon. View Notes & Marks appears as the seventh item on my menu.

@J. Gunnarsen - Which Kindle do you have? If it's a 2nd-gen Paperwhite, tap the top of the screen, tap Go To, then tap the Notes tab.

You are amazing ... This problem has been driving me crazy ... Thank you

There are way too many people who're casually saying "then delete each bookmark.". Yes we know that we can delete a bookmark individually. That's not the problem. Deleting them in bulk is the issue.

What? So what you're saying is that you're okay to open each book and delete each bookmark/note you made individually? That's the solution?

We need a way to delete them in bulk, and to delete them even after their books have been deleted from the kindle.

I was able to hold down/tap on My Clippings on the home page, which brought up the My Clippings file menu with an option to delete the entire file. Which I did, happily.
