I'm not sure why so many others have given this product "marginal reviews", this book does exactly what it promises, a step-by-step guide for the face and body. Super easy to follow, very clear instructions that covers the basics (as well as some "taboo" subjects like correcting a buttocks that due to how the photo was taken is larger than it should be) that covers facial contours, body contours, eyes, mouth, skin, hair & hands/feet. Probably not "the" retouching book, but definitely a good substantive, addition to any collection.

As someone who has been doing photoshop retouching (basic to intermediate) for a fair amount of time, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and some of the a little less "obvious" ideas for how to retouch your photos.

Overall,

Pros: Good addition to the library, easy to follow/understand, covers the "major desired" areas of retouching for photos.

Cons: Somewhat basic, and doesn't really deal with the photo as a whole, but rather in chunks.

Photoshop is a program with very few right ways to do anything. It's very much a matter of preference and of finding the way that will work for the desired result on a specific photo. This book shows numerous retouching and sculpting methodologies and will add to your collection of skills well. Most of the work shown in the book is relatively subtle and is very appropriate for mainstream work. It tends to shy away from obvious and dramatic retouching and focuses on methods to make your subject look their best. It's not great as a tutorial for photoshop - you should have the basics down already. But it definitely will help you find ways to make your subjects happy, and their photos look the way that they see themselves - which isn't always the way the camera sees them!

So far...this seems to be the most authoritative book on the subject of skin and skin tones I have found. This is not a quick read...and you won't learn Photoshop overnight. It is intended for the person who is committed to learning how to post-process the best "people" images possible...and presumes a working knowledge of Photoshop already.

The book was adequate, it gave me some things to think about. It was not what I though it would be. But...it talks about eaxctly what the title says. Nothing more,
point blank period .
