From the moment Pat Flynn introduces us to the Superfan Paradigm to the last sentence of the book, he spells out the journey involved in creating the lifeblood of a successful business – Superfans. This book is a must-read not just for business owners but also for writers, musicians, YouTubers, podcasters, and other creative personalities.
I’ve eagerly awaited learning how Pat Flynn turned skeptical-ole-me into a super-fan — which he has. This book delivers that insight with engaging stories, concise instructions, proven experience, calls to action and heart. Anyone who is building or dreaming of building a public-facing business will benefit greatly! But, it was the last 2 chapters on “The Dark Side of Building Superfans” that helped me get unstuck by addressing real risks that come with 🚀 launching an online business. and providing steps to take to mitigate those risks along with encouragement to take daring action. Count me in Pat Flynn! I’m going to follow the steps in this book to serve people with love and integrity as you model in this book and in your business. Here’s to overcoming dark side with light! #TeamFlynnforTheWin
If the premise of this book seems at all relevant to what you're trying to achieve, buy it now without even reading any other reviews – it's worth it. The book is concise and punchy and provides actionable value immediately.
I flew through the book in one sitting without taking notes, and now I'm going back through with my notepad and breaking the book down even further to eventually develop a "checklist" molded to my specific business that I will revisit weekly, making sure I'm staying on top of things.
The book provides a good mix of real-world examples of the principles in action along with many exercises for you to implement right away. It's a good book to "brainstorm" with, starting with some of the ideas and challenges presented in the book and eventually finding unique ways to serve your customers in an "on-brand" way.
This book said some great thing and made some really great points, but I don't feel like it's intended for some business types the author claims. You can easily implement these strategies if you provide practical solutions for customers, but what if you're an artist or fiction writer? How do you find the words people use to describe their problems or create quick wins they can do when your business doesn't deal with solving people's problems, but merely provides entertainment?
Six years ago, I found Pat's website and podcast and he showed me how you can truly be natural, be yourself and make the internet a better place. Everyone I've ever recommended go to his site has agreed at how great he is.
So, when I found out that he was writing a book on how to turn fans into super fans and grow a Tribe, I though, "It's about time!" Haha...all kidding aside, I couldnt' wait to see what he wrote on the subject. So, I bought the book immediately, and absolutely loved it.
Even though I've followed him for years, his behind the scenes approach was eye opening. Loved this book and highly recommend it.
I love this book. I heard Pat speak a few months ago at Reach Live and immediately became a superfan. I pre-ordered the book, hoping to find practical steps to being authentic, delivering value, and becoming a trusted authority as Pat has done. He delivered big-time, sharing everything to help those who would like to follow in his footsteps. I recommend this book to everyone, not just business owners, but also authors, educators, and honestly so many others who would love to build a village of support. There are so many books available now, but this one stands out among the rest. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend!
I never thought of myself as a "superfan," but if you ask my friends, if I get behind something...I'm loyal for life. With that...It is so fun to support someone who's work ethic you've admired, and Pat Flynn's work ethic is something to be respected. Not only a fan of his podcast(s) and courses, I've been at 2 of his monthly meetups at WeWorks in San Diego and the conversation is so little about Pat...his fans come and free-flowingly share spot-on ideas to anyone in the hot seat. And whether he's there...or not, it's a meet up you want to attend. Very cool forum. I say all of that because in "Superfans" Pat is speaking his truth. He lives this. Like no kidding. His family is involved in what he does. His fans support him. His Superfans will go to the mat for him. So to read the book, you are reading a journey of his own cultivation of loyal fans all around the globe. I LOVE that it was all inspired by his wife, April, and her superfandom for a certain boy band...but I'll let you read that part. This is such an affirming read for those of us here just beginning our journey to tend...like a beautiful garden...those wonderful souls who are and will SuperRave about your work. And Pat Flynn gives you every tool (plus a flippin bonus COURSE) and does it like a work of art. Over delivery is his Super Power. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. ps. The pic I've attached is the moment Pat first saw the book which was unveiled at the SD Entrepreur Meet-up. So happy that I caught that moment. Congratulations, Pat. And Congratulations TeamFlynn for the win.
(This is Maelisa reviewing) I heard Pat speak on this topic at Social Media Marketing World in 2018 and was so inspired, but also came away with actionable steps to take. This book is the same- he provides a companion course and has specific tasks at the end of each chapter. But he also gives a ton of (varied) examples about how all of these concepts look in real businesses and highlights the fact that this is not the usual tactic, which is getting numbers of followers. Superfans is about creating community with your people- the ones who read everything or buy everything you do. The ones who reach out to you and the ones you know by name. Few business and marketing books go so in-depth to discuss how you serve your most valuable customers. Superfans does this and no matter how advanced you are in business, you're bound to find some great tips you can implement and ways to create an engaged community around your business. Thanks for another great resource, Pat!
Let me start off with a tiny disclaimer. I'm a Superfan of Pat. I don't think that I am the biggest Superfan, but I am one nonetheless. Regardless this is a solid book full of ideas that will help you connect on a deeper level with your audience and rally them to help you take over the world. If you just want to be a faceless person behind an unauthentic brand, then this is not the book for you. The strategies here will require you to get out of your comfort zone and put yourself out there. That can be scary AF, not going to lie! I also love how Pat has countless examples from brands and personalities that he admires of how they are creating superfans. If you weren't already convinced this book comes with a online companion course with hours of additional footage to help you go deeper with the concepts. Talk about over delivery. Regardless of where you are on your journey I'm confident you will find something of value to help you level up!
Pat starts out by saying… ”You don’t need to change the entire world to build a successful business; you just need to change someone’s world.” p. 26 With that in mind, Pat builds on Kevin Kelly’s concept of “1000 True Fans”. What if you could change clients and customers into Superfans? What if you could take casual, active and connected clients, and move them up the ladder into Superfans? How do you build your 1000 true fans?
This is the concept of the book.
The book is a good quick read, organized into five parts and 19 chapters. But more than a book, each chapter ends with an exercise and has online accompanied material. I am not going to spoil, nor summarize any of the book's story. Mainly because I want you to read it. But I will give you my five lessons or takeaways I learned from reading Superfans.
Fred’s Five Takeaways from Superfans 1. While I have about 250 clients in my website business (at the time of this writing), I currently only have 37 Superfans. Superfans for me, are clients who would buy anything and everything I produce and currently spend more than $100 year, year after year consistently. What would happen to my business if I was to grow that to 1000 superfans?
2. My superfans exist not because of my B to B or B to C, but because of P to P: the person-to-person relationship. Furthermore, my clients who are superfans, when asked feel I am their friend.
3. I can increase my "DWDites" (my superfans name Chapter 11), by engaging them more, returning every handshake (Chapter 5), making personal thank you videos (Chapter 15), opening the factory doors (Chapter 9) and remembering the lemons (Chapter 14).
4. Not all clients are the same. I need to create a Platinum service, access, and experience. (Chapter 17).
5. I am wrong in my thinking to try to double and grow 200 new web clients a year. What if instead, I try to grow 50 more Superfans instead?
This book has changed my focus on how I see customer service. This book has changed my perspective on how I can serve my clients. Please, please, please take a moment business leaders and buy and implement this concept. Create Superfans for your business!
