Gets late updates and now it will not show up in the Underground App (unable to install) even when I've already installed before on my phone and even when in the webpage tells me it's compatible.

But now I have to share my location and compare my music and play lists to those of my friends? Why? And why do I need to MANUALLY uncheck all these privacy-violating instances, together with annoying, useless notifications that serve no purpose to get a peace of mind?
At some point every app developer has to ask himself if what he or she is doing is worth while, maybe include less features and spend time on bug fixes and optimization? Shazam isn't an app that people use hourly or even weekly, it's a utility that is used occasionally when others means of trying to remember the name of the song fail and it's really good at what it does. Please, stop ruining it by including more and more features that make is less user friendly and more bloated instead.

I use Shazam at least once a day on my way to work, via my Android Wear watch, to check the name of an artist who's song is playing on the radio during my drive. It's nice that Shazam supports Android Wear and sends a mini app to the watch when Android Wear is present. Simply say "OK GOOGLE" and then "OPEN SHAZAM", the watch app opens up and immediately starts listening to the song in the vicinity. Within seconds, the song title and artist are displayed. From the Android Wear watch, a swipe to the left brings up the lyrics if they are available. They lyrics advance with the music so you are reading the line that is currently playing.

Amazon app store is notorious for not updating there apps. This is annoying for free apps, but it's totally unacceptable for played apps and should be investigated for fraud. Besides getting paid apps for free as the free app of the day I would never recommend anyone purchasing paid apps from Amazon. Shazam Encore was just updated to 5.3.4.1 with supposed for Android Wear in the Google Play Store. This is the 3rd or 4th update to the app that Amazon has ignored.

I downloaded a few apps like this during a free promotion they were doing. They seemed ok, then decided to remove the amazon market app because I prefer Google market. As soon as I did that, most of the apps stopped working, a message says "Amazon Appstore required", they were dependent on the amazon market app to connect to a server EVERY TIME they are run (a few still worked so I kept them).

Free only takes you so far with this requirement, in my view, even less considering these apps are normally not free.

Caught a promo for this for free. Use it often to find a song without the artist name.

I installed the latest versions of Shazam Encore and SoundHound Infinity on a Motorola Xoom. I then selected 50 songs with varying degrees of obscurity, played them back one at a time and asked each app to identify it. I tried to use the same segment of the song for each app, usually the very beginning. If it couldn't identify the song from the beginning, I fast-forwarded to the chorus and tried from there.

Shazam properly identified 31 of the songs, claimed it could not identify 19 and made no incorrect guesses.
SoundHound properly identified 32 of the songs, claimed it could not identify 10, and made 8 incorrect guesses.

SoundHound was much faster when it was confident about a song, but slower if it wasn't sure. SoundHound was able to identify the most obscure stuff more often than Shazam, but it also made a number of mistakes while Shazam made no errors. SoundHound crashed once during the test; Shazam performed flawlessly.

For those who want more information about the songs used and the specific results:

Both apps were able to identify: "I See a Boat on the River" by Boney M., "It Came Out of the Sky" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, "White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i" by Isreal Kamikawiwo'ole, "Batman" by Jan & Dean, "Flash to the Rescue" by Queen, "Snoopy for President" by The Royal Guardsmen, "People Mover" by Servotron, "Am I In Sync" by Steve Taylor, "Toast and Marmalade for Tea" by Tin Tin, "Love and Fury" by The Tornados, "Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight" by Tiny Tim, "Let's Pretend We're Bunny Rabbits" by Magnetic Fields, "America, F**k Yeah!" by Team America, "Say Man" by Bo Diddley, "The Blob" by The Five Blobs, "The Bertha Butt Boogie" by Jimmy Castor Bunch, "Black Superman" by Johnny Wakelin, "Martian Hop" by The Ran-Dells, "Get Up, Action" by Digital Emotion, "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavor (On the Bedpost Overnight)" by Lonnie Donegan, "Purple People Eater" by Sheb Wooley, "Star Trekkin'" by The Firm, "Mr. Custer" by Larry Verne, and "Dungeons and Dragons" by the Dead Alewives

Neither app could identify: "Metric Conversion" by Bruce Haack, the America Sings soundtrack from Disneyland, "Everybody's Rich But Us" by Glenn Yarbrough, "Lily of the Valley" by the Limeliters, "No Rewind" by the Orchestra, "Brazilian Love Song" by Steel Drums of Trinidad, "The Raccoon Song" by Jan Hobson & Her Bad Review, "In the Franches Mountains" by Swiss Mountain Muscicians, or "Syncopated Clock" by Leroy Anderson.

The songs SoundHound misidentified but Shazam got correct were: "Doctor Who" by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, "Improperium" by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo De Silos, "Cantina Band" by The Evil Genius Orchestra, "Der Fuehrer's Face" by Spike Jones and "A Nightmare On My Street" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince (the latter was identified properly by SoundHound on a second attempt using a different portion of the song). SoundHound also misidentified and Shazam also could not identify: "Squirrels" by The Beastly Boys, "Her Lazer Light Eyes" by Nullsleep, and "Corngrinding Songs" by Delphine Tsinajinnie.

SoundHound correctly identified these songs that Shazam could not: "Dracula's Deuce" by The Ghouls, "Nitrous Burn Out" by Man or Astro-Man?, "August October" by Robin Gibb, "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" (non-orchestrated version) by Tom Lehrer, "Beans in my Ears" by the Serendipity Singers, "Jingle Bells" by the Singing Dogs, and "Banned From Argo" by Leslie Fish.

Shazam properly identified, but SoundHound could not: "The Little Green Men" by George Morgan

The app itself works however various bug fixes & new features have since been added by the developer & was last updated in the Google Playstore on 2/27/15 to version 5.3.1. I've contacted Amazon several times as to why this app hasn't been updated in the Appstore & they're clueless, pointing fingers at the developers. I've contacted the developers & they've stated Amazon received the updates & haven't approved them. In over a year, no concrete answers, simply unacceptable!

I upgraded to the "commercial free" version. The app works good, doing what it says. There is still 'recommended" though. This is why 4 stars instead of 5.

Love this app!! It's pretty cool how no matter where I am, or how quiet the music is, it almost always instantly finds it. Only issue is I can't update it!! Latest update downloads, then says, "update". Won't install the update, however. All other apps update with no problem. Hopefully this will be fixed soon!! Great app, otherwise.
