Annoying to keep clean!
on October 4, 2015
I had to return this cell after eight months because I kept hearing a sparking noise (not the regular, annoying “popping” sound). I also smelled smoke (no one in my household smokes). Oreck said that one of the wires could be loose. The unit was completely dry (I let it sit out in the open for two days).
I think it's extremely hard to keep these cells clean. I purchased this "eight month cell" to replace my previous Truman cell. I was experiencing the same issues with the previous cell. Oreck claims that all you have to do is wash the cell off in water. That works for a bit, but you have
to start using oven cleaner or their spray to get the thing clean (oven cleaner smells worse than their spray and seems to eat away at the metal finish. Oreck recommended I try oven cleaner when their spray was not working). I question why Oreck sells a spray when all they claim you need to do is wash the cell off in water to keep it clean. Money, perhaps? Eventually, even oven cleaner doesn’t work.
Just a word to the wise: David Oreck sold his interests in the Oreck company in the 1990s, but is still the company spokesman. Oreck filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and is now owned by TTI, which is a division of a Chinese company. They claim that the Truman cell never needs to be
replaced. Yeah, right! If that is true, why do they sell replacement cells on Oreck.com? Oh: I know! $$$!
