If you tune into country stations these days, you can hear lots of richly orchestrated pop music with a bit of a southern accent. Used to be there was a thing called country music, though. That's where The Time Jumpers come in (along with folks like Asleep At The Wheel.) And this is very much a band, where everybody gets a turn and where nobody outshines the others. Sure Vince Gill is the big name but he, for all his amazing musical skills and wonderful tenor, is only a sometimes lead singer. These folks have figured it out. Play the music we want to play, make it sound like country music is supposed to and the heck with the rest of it all. Because they have plenty of work, they can do what they want. And it's all here- homages to Texas, blue yodels, upbeat two-steps, lonesome blues, fiddle solos, even a Bob Wills-like "here come those boys" sneaks in. No surprise the it's on Rounder records, who have been doing what they themselves want for decades. Do yourself a favor and get it, this and anything else by the Jumpers. And go for a ride with the music blaring.

I have always offered Vince Gill's "The Key" as an example of how good major label country music can be,even in the rank pop driven times of today. It does goes back a bit now (1998) but Vince has on the 4-5 tracks he is featured as lead vocalist actually made this a mini-Key if you like. Stunning Nashville sound recreated. I'd even go as far as saying "Three Sides to Every Story" is (hard to believe) better than anything on "The Key". BUT..there is more. Vince is one of 4 vocalists. The delightful Dawn Sears, her husband Kenny Sears and Ranger Doug Green (of Riders in the Sky) provide wonderful variety in the vocal department and the instrumentation from the likes of Kenny Sears and Joe Spivey on fiddle and Paul Franklin on steel is faultless and thrilling....they actually do solos...and not the 3 second variety that major label artists throw in to suggest they are performing country music. Their previous "Live at Station Inn" had a slightly different personnel (I do miss wonderful vocalist Carolyn Martin) and was more a western swing album, whereas this is a country album with just a little swing thrown in. If you are serious about REAL country music this cd is for you.

This is a really good CD from a song selection & performance standard' This was a more fun group when they started out playing at the Station Inn on Monday's years ago. Check out their debut LIVE CD & DVD its really terrific & IMO better than the current release. A 16 (TON) Grammy Award winner has now entered the room Vince Gill. He does not dominate the entire CD, but his merely being present creates that atmosphere for me as a listener. I have noticed that the amount of touring has increased with this group, which leads me to think some of these session level players need make road gig money???

The Time Jumpers is one very special band, made up of a core of, in my opinion, "SuperStar" musicians. Each band member hails from their own background of music, very talented on their specific instrument, and altogether they become one of the best bands that I've heard in quite some time.
Recently saw them and met several of them in Nashville, at one of their Monday night shows - totally blew me away.
Have not been in a room with such talent in many, many years.
Being a musician myself, I sat there in awe, just being in a smaller venue, seeing these greats perform off each other.
I highly recommend this CD to any musician who has ever had the pleasure of seeing any of these musicians or dreamed of seeing them.
I also recommend this to the rest of music lovers - who can appreciate truly fine music played by truly the finest of artists.

I was already well aware of this band's reputation which has been established by their regular performances at noted Nashville Americana hotspots like the Station Inn. This is a collection of top-notch sophisticated musicians playing in great form. After a few listens, this CD may induce you to journey to Music City to see this outfit perform LIVE! Great CD; a "must have" for lovers of the modern Western Swing style.

I looked up this group because they were on Miranda's Lambert song All That's Left from her Platinum album. I found out that this group was formed from country artists and musicians who knew each other and got together to form the best of the best. They started performing and became popular. The music is great, the songs are simple, old-fashioned songs. Nothing spectacular that you would hear on the radio, but you would sing at home.

Why try to "pigeon hole" music when the performances are so varied? Like the make up of the Time Jumpers, the tunes played are varied, energetic and high quality. Give this one a listen ... and then get the first CD "Jumpin Time" and the DVD of the same. You won't regret it. I'm not sure why the disk is marketed as by Vince Gill (just one of the Jumpers), but if it sells more disks then so be it ... makes it worth cutting another disk. Then you can file your copy with Bob Wills, Asleep At the Wheel, Vince Gill, Riders In the Sky, Cindy Walker, Spade Cooley or whoever you want to compare to the Time Jumpers. I just file mine on my shelf for "Favorites".

Most of modern country music bores me and, while not all of the names in this band are familiar to me, the group obviously loves the western swing style ala Bob Wills and even Asleep at the Wheel. Vince Gill is clearly a leader here, but all of the members shine, whether they are vocalists or instrumentalists. I assume the songs are originals with the group, so it's great to hear new music done in an old style. If you enjoy classic country music, give this disc a listen.
