As good as it was before - and you don't need to use the case
on January 8, 2014
I don't know why it was so hard to find a review of this that could clarify this, so let me be (one of) the first:
You do not need to use the provided case to use this Tiltpod on your iPhone 5/5s
I got used to running my iPhone naked since the iPhone 4. I guess I'm lucky or I have sticky fingers or something, but (fingers-crossed) no broken phones yet. I'm a minimalist. The case is, imo, pretty cheap anyway. Don't get me wrong... there's nothing "wrong" with the case. It is, perhaps, the thinnest plastic case I have yet to see for the iPhone, but it provides ZERO protection (other than minor scratches, maybe) for your phone. As it adds no real functionality, I don't see the point, and to be honest, I wish they would offer a Tiltpod without the case and drop the price back to $20, like I paid for the iPhone 4/4s version.
I also wish they would sell just the mount for the phone, as the base for this is nearly identical to the prior version. I got the black version and the only difference was they 4/4s version had a green "foot", which I kinda dig, and the new one is all black. The new one also feels a little stickier, but that could be due to the pocket-time the older one got. Either way, I took the new mount and switched it to the older foot and no issue.
So in summary, this is a great product, again. If you had the 4/4s version and were used to running your phone naked, have no fear - this one works naked as well, no need for the case. If you have not purchased a Tiltpod before, let me assure you I had the same questions about the thing as you do. I bought it at the same time as the Glif, and the Tiltpod became something I use almost everyday. It's hard to describe just how much utility this thing has, but if you need a way to mount your phone for photos, shake-free video, or even a desk mount for your iPhone, this product is perfect.
