A Little Bit of a Let-Down
October 31, 2014
Like many Crowder fans, I came into fandom under the release of DCB*'s Remedy right before the award winning release of Church Music came out. I back-tracked a little to find their earlier releases wasn't to my liking, but ironically when DCB*'s final release came out, "Give Us Rest," I found myself slowly becoming a fan of Crowder's unique blend of bluegrass and synthetic pop.
I waited for quite a long time to get Crowder's Neon Steeple, not wanting to pay top dollar, and found that the wait even really wasn't worth it. Though I freely confess I have new Crowder favorites on this release, it kept me wanting. Perhaps it could've been better with Crowder's band.
I never understand why big names like David Crowder, or Newsboys' former Peter Furler depart their bands only to make more music. I know sometimes a band can't decide on a direction where only one person can more easily, but at the same time... I don't know.
In any case Crowder's solo releases will hopefully improve with time.
