GREAT for listeners new to Sinatra
April 21, 2015
This collection would have been better if it went for deeper cuts, as a more in-depth companion to the single disc version. For example, tracks like When I Lost You and a few concert versions of key songs like Night and Day. Still, the music on these four discs is undeniably stellar. New Sinatra listeners will love this. It covers 1939 to 1979 - 40 years of masterful music by the greatest symbol of the 20th Century American Dream. Every track is music at its most artful and timeless. Sinatra had amazing, superb taste, and was a genius at fully realizing the total potential of the songs he so carefully selected to record. The reviewer who gave this set 1 star is being very nit picky about what is obviously a great representation of Sinatra's music. Sure, hardcore Sinatraphiles such as myself always want to hear more previously unreleased Sinatra music, and Sinatra's catalog of recordings is so vast that even 100 recordings is super-difficult to narrow it down to. But the bottom line is: this is 5 star music all the way (I'd give it 100 stars if I could). Loads of value for the price (because it really is priceless music/art that we are lucky to have access to - and there are hundreds and hundreds of other recordings by Sinatra that must be explored, if the music on this set moves you).
