Brilliant adaptations of Nick Lowe's brilliant pop-rock originals into stirring surf-style instros.
On the more relaxed, dreamy and gorgeous side I'll choose for favorites an inspired "You Inspire Me," "I Read a Lot" and "Cruel to Be Kind" (love the original - one of my favorite singles of the late '70s - as well as the transformation it gets here, which totally works).
On the ultra-energetic and propulsive side you can't beat "I Live on a Battlefield" and the album opener "Shake & Pop" (whose title tells the story!).
For midtempo excellence, "Lately I've Let Things Slide," "Rollers Show" and the title track lead the way.
I can't wait to find out where Los Straitjackets will decide to take us next!
