I bought this product when I saw the launch on Amazon because I knew it would be perfect for my cousin who travels the world to take photos. I picked up two units and gave one to him for his birthday before he left on a trip through Southeast Asia with his Nikon D800 and no laptop.
He is absolutely loving his GNARBOX! For me, it’s really awesome to be able to follow his journey more closely since he can grab photos and text them to me. I know that he’s also using it with a hard drive to store so he can store his photos safely while traveling.
I broke out the second unit to try it out with my Canon Rebel. I’m not a serious photographer, but the GNARBOX has already come in handy for me when I want to clear my card or quickly scroll through my photos and video clips before picking one to share!

I bought this for a trip to Europe because I wanted to make backups of my photos, but I didn't want to lug around a laptop. The process is easy. Insert the SD card, plug in the external hard drive, connect the iphone to the gnarbox wifi, back up the files using the app on the phone. It was relatively fast considering how much data I was moving around. It was easy to use. It did everything it was advertised to do. And best of all, it was lightweight and easy to carry. Thank you GNARBOX, you made my trip so much easier.

When traveling, I have always hated bringing along a laptop to backup/view my photos and footage. Gnarbox is the perfect solution. Not only can gnarbox backup files without the help of a computer, it can also transfer these files to another external hard drive!
As a raw file and video editing solution, gnarbox cannot compare to dedicated computer programs, however it was never intended to. I am happy with the editing tools provided by gnarbox for making quick 'instagram' edits, and the convenience of viewing you media on the go is unparalleled. Once you finally sit down at a computer, all your original footage is available to download.
If your on the fence, just buy one!

Ive had my GNARBOX for a few weeks now and feel I can properly review it. Im using it with a Samsung NX30 mirrorless camera, a GoPro Hero5 Black, a Samsung Galaxy S5, and a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. Using the device is super simple and user friendly. I have no problem connecting my phone/tablet or memory cards and transfer speeds are super quick.
Im using the GNARBOX as a rugged and mobile card reader, backup drive, power supply, organizing photos for export, and for simple edits of GoPro footage. What I'm not using it for is for any real photo or video editing. My phone/tablet and the app Photomate R3 can handle RAW photo editing just fine and Kinemaster is a far superior video editor (albeit that my current outdated phone/tablet cant handle anything over 1080p 30fps).
Im kind of disappointed with this. The hardware is awesome, I love the ruggedized body since I bought this to bring backpacking. I really like the idea of a portable high quality photo editor, but Im mostly a photographer and for me to give it 4 or 5 stars I would need to see some big improvements to the software (features similar to photomate r3 and maybe even masks or brushes). Right now it just doesnt feel like its worth quite $300 since im barely using its processing potential. Luckily all this could be fixed through firmware updates and it seems like the company is keeping up on development so far. We'll see, I really hope to be able to come back and edit this review.

This is an excellent mobile solution for file backup/storage and editing on the go. I use this as an immediate backup to my files during a shoot. It has never corrupted or deleted files from my card. There is still room for improvement for features and stability. The support for this is excellent. The team is prompt to address issues. Overall I'm very satisfied with this device and would recommend it to any photographer/videographer.

It doesn't support all promised formats. It is slow and crashes all the time. Disappointed.

Slow and frustrating to use. Good for backing up. Don't expect this to replace a laptop. It's cool for what it does, but it is no laptop replacement.

This box is amazing. It's even smaller then I was expecting. It came at the perfect time for me. My computer took a crap and most my shooting is done on the go. This is the perfect device for that. I can honestly say this thing feels tough and rugged. I would not be scared to toss it in my backpack and hike around all day. I can not wait to take my first weekend trip with it and update family with quality photos along the way.
If your wondering if this is for mainly outdoor stuff it is not. This would be a great device for any photographer. Imagine taking a break real quick, throw out a quick edit and send to your client right away to keep the pumped for all the photos to come. I recommend this to anyone from hobby photographers to the most advance professionals.
p.s. Gnarbox give Kat some raises or some bonus time. Her customer service was beyond great. Made my life simple and my decision easier.

The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that they do not have some of the Android features I would like, as they have for the IPhone. But the creators are very receptive about suggestions and very enthusiastic about their product. I will be using it in my photography workshops for sure!! They have hit a winning concept!!!
