I was concerned over the "too country" reviews because I also dislike country--and given Darius's country solo career, I though I may not like the new album. BUT...I was relieved. The country influence is barely perceptible...and I might even say it's no more prominent than it was during Hootie 90s albums. Remember, there were several other songwriters involved, so it wasn't just Darius.
As to the album, it's not just "not country," but it's excellent. Melodic, terrific vocals and guitar work. Almost every song is classic Hootie, though the subject matter clearly reflects the maturation of the group as individuals. I love this album and can't stop listening to it. Same with my wife. Music and books are highly subjective, but if you're a Hootie fan or just enjoy listening to great, melody songs that you can't get out of your head and just plain make you feel good, Imperfect Circle will fit the bill. Highly recommended.
