Most enjoyable Christmas CD! It's very swingy, which I LOVE and every song is good. I like this one way better than the one she put out in 2014. If you love upbeat Christmas music with a swing, you'll love this. The song 'At This Table', one of the new songs here, is also lovely, moving, and will make you cry... in a good way. Her rendition of O Holy Night/Ave Maria is absolutely beautiful and her voice is in top form. It will get you emotional, guaranteed! 'I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm' with Billy Porter is amazing and will have you dancing around. And 'We Wish You the Merriest' with Josh Gad is adorable. The one with Ariana Grande, 'Let's Hear It for Mrs Claus', is new and was written by Frozen scribe Kristen Anderson-Lopez. It's lots of fun as well. There's even a Latino Hanukkah song(!), 'Ocho Kanelitas' and a beautiful, touching version of 'Auld Lang Syne' as well. Highly recommend!
Big band, jazz inspired orchestration and vocals. This is an excellent addition to any Christmas listening. Menzel always has good instincts for song selection and her vocals are always perfect. She proves again why she is one of the top singers in popular music today.
Idina Menzel is sensational, and this album is No exception. I absolutely loved her first holiday album and now I love this one too. I really recommend having both. I listen to her first one every year and now I’ll be listening to this one every year as well. Do not hesitate to buy this.
I can't believe Idina recorded a song about Jesus and Mary on a Christmas album. How offensive is that? I mean, I know we wouldn't even have Christmas if it wasn't for God, Jesus, and Mary, but come on, America. We should be past all of this by now. It is the age of selfishness, buying stuff for ourselves, and only caring about our own needs. What happened to keeping God's love and the gift of His Only Begotten Son out of the holidays (even though the word "holiday" literally means "holy day")? If you listen to this album, just start shouting and screaming during "O Holy Night/Ave Maria" to drown her out, and everything will be okay. No need to have your sensibilities bruised at this tender time of year.
And for those of you who have no stomach for sarcasm and are offended by everything (that's the American way now, right?), I am being facetious.
Idina's arrangement and mashup of O Holy Night and Ave Maria is gorgeous.
At This Table is turning out to be my favorite song of the year.
The new arrangment of Seasons of Love stays very true to the original, while adding a few nice twists and surprises.
If you are new to Idina Menzel, this is a good place to start. Good for you! Don't stop here!
