The complete literary oeuvre of one of the most celebrated authors and controversial figures of fin de siècle Great Britain.

Playwright, poet, essayist, flamboyant man-about-town, Oscar Wilde packed an astonishing amount of work, genius, and controversy into two short decades, producing masterworks in every literary genre. This comprehensive one-volume edition of his writings includes his only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, considered immoral by many when first published at the end of the nineteenth century. Included also is Wilde's original four-act version of his most popular play, The Importance of Being Earnest, with readings from the revised edition; the essay "The Portrait of Mr. W.H.," in which Wilde expanded his theory concerning the mystery of Shakespeare's sonnets; and "De Profundis," his moving and tragic letter to Lord Alfred Douglas, composed during Wilde's time in prison.

With an introduction by Vyvyan Holland, Oscar Wilde's son, here are the author's complete stories, plays, and poems, and a substantial number of his essays and letters, all in their most authoritative texts.

Oscar Fingall O'Flahertie Wills Wilde was born in Dublin in 1854. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and Magdalen College, Oxford where, a disciple of Pater, he founded an aesthetic cult. In 1884 he married Constance Lloyd, and his two sons were born in 1885 and 1886.

His novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891), and social comedies Lady Windermere's Fan (1892), A Woman of No Importance (1893), An Ideal Husband (1895), and The Importance of Being Earnest (1895), established his reputation. In 1895, following his libel action against the Marquess of Queesberry, Wilde was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for homosexual conduct, as a result of which he wrote The Ballad of Reading Gaol (1898), and his confessional letter De Profundis (1905). On his release from prison in 1897 he lived in obscurity in Europe, and died in Paris in 1900.

NOT complete works - only one volume out of 11
After reading several reviews, some of which said that the book they purchased, was not, the complete works, and other is saying it was the complete works, I took a leap of faith and Purchased the paperback. This issue could have been resolved if the seller had included a copy of the table of contents in the description or images. The book that I received contains only “Intentions,” and “the Soul of Man,“ nothing else. The type also does not look like it was newly typeset but rather printed from a scan of an old book, and the typeface is huge. There is an old, out-of-print version of the “Complete Works,” and I think this must be one volume of those works. I’m disappointed and will be returning this book because it is not what was advertised.

The front cover looks like it was bent back at some point. It didn’t arrive bent, but the bottom third of the cover stuck out.

I tried correcting this and while I was able to get it to lie (relatively) flat again, there is still a large crease in the front cover.

I love the paperback version of this and am so excited to have all of Wilde's work in one place. Great collection and the cover artwork is nice to display as well.

Finding the RIGHT Oscar Wilde collection is difficult, because of copyright issues and blatant misinformation. This is a GREAT collection. Unfortunately, it arrived with a bent, split cover because it had been shipped in a box with no padding.

This is a great collection of Oscar Wilde’s complete works. The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Importance of Being Earnest, Woman of No Importance… they’re all there. The commentary by various contributors provide insight on Wilde’s motivations for his writing as well as the difficulties in his life.

Unlike most of the recent reviews, my paperback copy came with all of Wilde’s literature. I suspect the people whose reviews mentioned how that their version only received a few of his works are from those who purchased the Kindle edition. Rest assured, if you purchase the paperback, it comes with everything that was included in the description.
For the book itself, it has a very nice print and came in very good condition. Extremely satisfied.

I bought the paperback version and it is NOT the complete works. It only has two plays, Lady Windermere's Fan and The Importance of Being Earnest. Also, the margins around the text are so huge that the printed text only covers a fourth of the page. I guess they do this to stretch the page numbers, making the book appear longer. Requested a refund.

I have checked out this volume from my local library for over ten years. I FINALLY purchased it off of Amazon. This is my "island" book, easy-reading print, great binding, and should last me forever. Shipped quickly, and described perfectly!

When I first saw this book I went straight to the reviews. There were many good and some bad. I ended up buying the book, and let me tell you, this was a good buy. I have no idea if this book contains all of his work, but it's most if not all. With this book you get stories, plays, poems (huge collection), poems in prose, essays and letters. All of wich are titled.

As for those that do not like this book, maybe you are mistaken.

Shipping was very fast, book was in exact condition as stated.

Es un libro de 2000 hojas, aún no he tenido la oportunidad de leerlo por qué tengo 4 libros que leer antes que este pero el papel es muy bonito y el libro se siente de buena calidad.

Although I have ready the Picture of Dorian Gray many times, I am very excited to go through his plays that I have not yet read, his poems, as well as his letters and essays! I have seen many awful comments stating things that are simply not true about this book. It does indeed contain all of his works and MOST of his letters and essays (as is stated). The number of pages is 1216. What I am trying to prove is that this product has come as the descriptions said it would and if you are not satisfied with the description then you will not be satisfied with what you receive.. it is that simple.

I have not even made it to where it is exciting in the first story, but never the less, it is exciting reading material. The English is quite different, from what I have yet experienced today, so it takes some time getting used to, but never the less I think this is a great book. Too bad he wrote that much through, because the back of the book is quite thick.

As an adherent of the brilliance that was Oscar Fingal Fflahertie Wills Wilde it would be rude to not have his complete work in my Kindle library as well on the hardcopy on my Beings book shelf. :-)
