100 Facts About Sharks Hardcover – September 1, 2012

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 36 ratings

From the inimitable authors of the hilarious 100 Facts About Pandas, prepare to be amazed, shocked, and delighted by a new tome on the only animals other than humans that celebrate birthdays #09 Frankie Says RefaxThe oceans' rarest shark is the fax machine shark, so called because of its distinctive nose and the beeping noise it makes as it swims. The animals were more common during the 1990s, but stocks have declined sharply in the new millennium. #20 Smirky WaterSharks are the only animals with no sense of humour whatsoever. Although they are occasionally glimpsed smiling, this is reckoned to coincide with nostalgic reminiscences about gruesome murders they have committed in the past.  Leading sharkeologists David O'Doherty, Claudia O'Doherty, and Mike Ahern bring curious readers 100 things they definitely didn't know about the oceans' most terrifying creatures. Who would have ever guessed, for example, that the great white shark hates jazz music, that a group of hammerhead sharks is called "a toolbelt," that the reef shark can send intimidating telephone text messages with its mind, that Dancing with the Sharks was Bulgarian TV's least successful television show, or that the word "shark" actually looks quite a bit like a shark? Each lucky reader's knowledge of sharks is about to get 100 facts more knowledgeable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Shark Facts & Highly Entertaining

100 Facts About Sharks is a real eye-opener into the exotic underwater world of sharks. This book reveals more about sharks than almost any other natural history account. Covering all species, it provides amazing insights and useful facts for your quiz team, lift conversations or commuting chats. In three words, this book is: Shark-tasitc, Shark-eriffic and Shark-tabulous!

For those that realise that this is a comedy book, it will also leave you highly entertained. The book is set up with 100 Facts relating to sharks. Each Fact is delivered on a double page spread, with an accompanying image and caption. The images are all very well done and the captions sometimes more insightful (amusing) than the fact itself. The book is reasonably small (about 15x10x1cm), but hardback bound, giving it a nice feel.

Along with it's sister book (100 Facts about Pandas), this covers a wild array of different Facts, that if told with a straight face, could potentially convince people. Some of the Facts are simply absurd, but most are just bizarre enough to make you think 'could that be real?' if told in isolation. For this reason, I like these books.

One a day, or as a coffee table book, you and your friends will enjoy it. It won't take you long to get through it if you read it all in one go, so I'd suggest little and often as the best approach.

Each of these 100 facts about sharks is informative and factual. The illustrations help to illustrate these facts, which are about sharks. Shark based facts help us learn about sharks, and to learn the facts.

This is book is really pretty funny, unlike my silly review. It sits on my coffee table permanently, so that all my friends can know how interested I am in shark facts in numbers up to 100.
