Review

Eve's Bible is a delightful and very helpful introduction to reading the Bible. It makes the Bible accessible to the lay reader, especially to women. . .and allows readers to discern for themselves its meaning for their lives today.” ―Rosemary Radford Ruether, author of Sexism and God-Talk: Toward a Feminist Theology

“Honest, brave and spirited,
Eve's Bible reclaims the scriptures . . .and makes these stories of counsel and wisdom available to all of us, whatever background or point of view.” ―Jennifer Lawler, author of Dojo Wisdom: 100 Simple Ways to Become a Stronger, Calmer, More Courageous Person

Eve's Bible helps readers consider the many dimensions hidden by the flat text of the Bible and arrive at a new understanding of women's presence in the Judeo-Christian story. An enlightening and valuable read.” ―Kristin Ohlson, author of Stalking the Divine

Eve's Bible is an extraordinary adventure and a great read. With wit and brilliance, Sarah Forth opens the door to antiquity and invites us to meet the women of the Old Testament--all the while encouraging us to have our own intimate relationship with the Bible.” ―Sage Bennet, Ph.D., author of Wisdom Walk: Nine Practices for Creating Peace and Balance from the World's Spiritual Traditions

Eve's Bible is a unique companion to the Scriptures, illuminating and provocative, full of wisdom, insight and good humor, and guaranteed to change the way both women and men read and think about the best-selling book in history.” ―Jonathan Kirsch, author of The Harlot by the Side of the Road

“Sarah Forth presents a unique and rich interpretation of the Old Testament, paying particular attention to women in the Bible and in the Biblical era. Writing with deep insight and humor, Forth uses textual and archaeological evidence to give substance to women's roles in the Bible and women's lives in the ancient Near East. Her comparisons of the lives of women in the Near East and women among the Hebrews are intriguing and often profound. This book is an important companion for anyone reading the Old Testament of the Judeo-Christian Bible.” ―
Miriam Robbins Dexter, Ph.D., UCLA, author, Whence the Goddesses: A Source Book

Eve's Bible is a gift. In fact, I'm giving it as a gift this Christmas to several people who I'm sure will appreciate it's clear exposition of scripture.

Sarah Forth has accomplished a remarkable feat here, presenting complex issues about how scriptures move from oral traditions to written text, in a way anyone can understand. What happens to women's stories in this process can only be understood in the context of this process. Then she proposes a process to reclaim women's stories. This is her purpose, but the wider goal of explaining how scriptures go from spoken word to text is much broader and brilliantly executed here.

Forth set's out the Hebrew Biblical traditions so clearly, I'm going to use a few pages she offers instead of the reams of material I assign my college level Belief Systems class, and then see if I can persuade her to offer a workshop. I'm lucky to live in the same town, but I'd offer to fly her across the country and do whatever to persuade her to come speak or offer a workshop on this book, but start by reading it. You'll be as grateful as I am for this accessible scholarship, I'm sure.

THIS BOOK GOES AGAINST WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BOOK.I BOUGHT IT FOR MY WIFE THINKING IT WOULD GIVE WOMAN'S PERSPECTIVE INTO THE WORD OF GOD.IT IS FAR FROM THE WORD OF GOD, AND BELIEF IN THE THINGS THIS BOOK TEACHES WILL LAND YOU IN HELL WHERE YOU WOULD HAVE ETERNITY TO PONDER THE CHOICES YOU MADE . PLEASE STAY AWAY.
JESUS IS THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY HIM.
HE LOVES YOU AND PROVED IT ON THE CROSS. GIVE YOUR LIFE TO HIM. DONT WAIT , TOMORROW MAY NEVER COME. WE AREN'T PROMISED TOMORROW. IF YOU RECIEVE JESUS YOU RECIEVE GOD IF YOU REJECT HIM YOU REJECT GOD HIMSELF FOR HE COMES FROM GOD AND IS GOD!!
    BE BLESSED

Raised in the Roman Catholic church of the 1950s, I never learned "The Bible" firsthand. We were not encouraged to read Scripture for ourselves, even the New Testament, much less the Old Testament (sometimes called the Hebrew Bible, but not identical). Now a Unitarian Universalist ministerial candidate, and the product of a fine seminary education ~ I still always wondered how it happened that women in the OT were nearly non-existent and mostly silent, even if noted by name in the Bible. Yet they were half of the population, and very influential in many ways. Sarah Forth's user-friendly and deeply resourced book helps explain how to read OT Scripture, how to recognize women's voices in OT Scripture, and how to read with appreciation of OT context. Now if we could just get her to do the same for the New Testament!

I only downloaded a sample to see if I would like the book. Sorry I even have that much of it. I read several chapters to see if she was for real, and I actually believe she lives in the darkness with satan. Save your money and buy a real Bible, inspired by God all the way. How could she ignore the O T prophesies that came to be true in the New Testament times? Jesus is the truth, the way and the life!

Penned by one of the devil's allies full of deception, the writings contained in this unfactual piece of garbage are full of falsehood and Satan's lies. Money wasted on demonic filth if you purchase this item.

Eve's Bible is a great little book for men and women of all beliefs who want to explore underlying meaning in the Old Testament. For someone like me, with my rebellious attitude toward all things religious, Eve's Bible opened my mind to greater acceptance of the Bible as a whole. The book invites its readers to reflect on the women in the Bible -- their experiences, their contexts, their roles, and most importantly, their messages. Dr. Forth's research is impeccable, and her approach is personal and warm. Eve's Bible is hardly prosaic, the reader is invited to ponder, wonder, and participate in discovery.

I've never written a review for any item. But, I am compelled to write one for this book. Sarah S Forth's book is heresy, pure and simple. I was given this book by my son, a new believer in Christ. I'm sure he didn't read any of it himself, because I believe even new believers can see this book for what it is, if they actually read it.

Knowing that it came from a place of love (on my son's behalf, not the author) I was tempted to just accept it graciously and not say anything, because I didn't want to hurt his feelings. But, I think learning that not every book with a "Christian" title is from God, is a lesson every Christian should learn. Which is funny, because this author basically states that not everything in the bible comes from God.

In a nutshell... I only had to read a couple sentences in this book to know that I would not be reading it to finish. I read a few more pages, just to see where she took it and as I suspected, it didn't get any better. I feel sorry for the people who are reading this book and accepting it as true. I pray that God will open their eyes before it is too late.

I will leave with these 2 passages:

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Matt 7:13-14)

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Tim 3:16-17)
