Noted: A Journal to Explore How We Shape, Create, and Develop Ideas Stationery – October 6, 2015

Adam Turnbull started documenting his creative ideas on any piece of paper that inspired him: a photograph, a postcard, an envelope... When he began binding these pieces in small books, he discovered that the "canvas" he originally used helped shape more concepts. And so Noted came to life: an interactive journal that features an array of images of things on which to record ideas, from letterhead or a guest check to the palm of the hand, a napkin, or a matchbook.

Along with striking images of common items,
Notedencourages interaction with subtle, open-ended, and random prompts, facts, and quotes. The results will be as unique as your own experiences . . . A blank matchbook may become the canvas for a restaurant logo. A brick wall could elicit a rendering of street art, a piece of fiction about the Berlin Wall, or a political message for the masses.

Draw, write, doodle, collage….
Noted encourages you to use the medium to express yourself in a way that is distinctly yours.

Review

“In addition to the visual prompts, Noted includes inspirational factoids—musician Richard Berry wrote the lyrics for raunch rock classic "Louie Louie" on toilet paper—and motivational quotes including Nick Cave nugget "To act on a bad idea is better than to not act at all.”…[Turnbull] hopes his book kickstarts readers' imaginations…”

"Noted" is a fantastic tool to help spark new ideas or help you rethink existing ones. It's beautifully designed and lets you navigate through the book as you wish - with each page presenting a particular object and a call to action to get you started. Examples include "Iron out the creases" next to the image of a creased and crumpled piece of paper, and "Each tells a different story" next to a mixed bunch of pens and markers.

Whether you work in a creative field, or are simply looking to create new ideas, you'll find a fun, simple and engaging set of lightweight prompts within these pages. Highly recommended.
