Clear Speech is a well-conceived pronunciation text that, in my experience, students have found very pleasant to use. It covers individual sounds, as well as speech rhythm and intonation, in a very fluid way. It can help instructors teach ESL students to pronounce well not only word by word, but also to arrive at more natural-sounding sentence flow. I have found that the exercises in the book benefit students beyond their own pronunciation, and actually help them to understand native English speakers better. The third edition is a vast improvement over the previous one, because it guides students in deciphering English spelling and provides more practice in specific, troublesome sounds. The new edition also includes a practice CD, which is something many students using the second edition often wished for. The graphic simplicity of the book is a huge advantage over other pronunciation texts available. All in all, I think Clear Speech is one of the best - if not THE best - choice for teaching pronunciation.

However, to get the most from the book, you need the Teacher's Resource Guide, and this doesn't even come up on Amazon's suggestions when you're ordering. I had to Google it to find the name, then eventually found it on Amazon. So, here's your heads up!! This is a very useful book for teaching pronunciation. It is appropriate for beginning and intermediate students. There are many exercises. The CD in the student's edition includes about 1/2 the exercises; the rest of them are on the teacher's edition CD. The book focuses a lot on stress patterns and the music of the language within the context of complete sentences and puts less emphasis on isolating individual sounds. It's a great book, very user-friendly for teachers and students alike.

Un metodo muy bien estructurado para mejorar la pronunciación en Inglés de personas no nativas de cualquier nacionalidad. Yo lo compré para estudiar en casa, pero no está indicado para ello por que el CD no contiene todos los ejercicios del libro (sólo 1/3 de los mismos) y tampoco tiene¡ las claves para corregirlos (supongo que estarán en la misma serie pero "Teacher's resource book). Hay también ejercicios para hacerlos en grupo o pareja, pero se necesita la supervisión de una persona nativa. Es para personas con un nivel intermedio-bajo de Inglés, personas con dificultad en la comprensión y un apoyo muy bueno para profesores. Merece la pena hacer los ejercicios que se puedan. Todo está muy bien explicado y no hace falta tener conocimientos de fonética para ello. Quito dos estrellas por la confusión de no ser un libro de auto-aprendizaje en casa pero parecerlo.

Also ich hab mir das Buch gekauft um an der Aussprache zu feilen und listening comprehension zu üben, da ich mit dem Ganzen echt Probleme hab.

Das Buch an sich ist nicht schlecht es beschreibt die Aussprache und ist detailliert. Allerdings ist die mitgelieferte CD nicht unbedingt sinnvoll da nur die hälfte von dem drauf ist was man eigentlich bräuchte. Gerade die Tests und Aufgaben sind nicht drauf wofür ja das Hörverstehen eigentlich benötigt wird! Man muss die CD dafür extra kaufen welche ca. 30 EUR kostet, damit man die Aufgaben überhaupt machen kann.

Ich finde es sehr schade. Ich hab mir die Zusatz-CD also besorgt um überhaupt richtig was mit dem Buch anfangen zu können.

Ehrlich gesagt, die mitgelieferte CD hätten sie sich wirklich sparen können.
