Many books about electromagnetic fields focus on specific types, but Levitt does a great job explaining everything from the beginning in an easier to understand way. This is like the master encyclopedia of understanding electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Her scientific sources are plentiful and well documented. This is one of my top recommendations for anyone interested in learning about EMFs. Even though it is now a bit older, it still is very applicable to current technology.

I have been plagued by mysterious symptoms for the past few months - symptoms like fibromyalgia, insomnia, etc. When I discovered that I have all the symptoms of electromagnetic sensitivity it was time to do my homework. While one of the person who commented about this book thought it was things he already knew - I feel differently. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who even remotely suspects they may be affected by EMF radiation - especially if you are a beginner. An informative book with great organization by chapted title to help you refer back to information you may want to zero in on. The author refers often to the books of Dr Robert O. Becker where you can find more scientific detail about some of the the research. For those with the need for more about the "proof" then they would be good next books to purchase. This author does a great job of giving the short version in order to pack this book full of information. I picked up this book as a companion to the Trifield EMF meter I purchased to help me understand the readings better and to know what I can do about high readings to reduce my exposure to these fields. I am interested in this topic for a few reasons. I am one of those extra-sensitive folks who can feel the fields very clearly(for instance I cannot hold a cell phone or wireless phone to my head due to severe pain). I have lived for 10 years near powerlines that I can feel when I drive under them. I recently was diagnosed with acute leukemia and as I emerge from very successful treatment I am looking for ways to clean up my environment (and diet) to avoid a relapse. I have also done healing work for 20 years and this book along with Dr. Becker's are useful in understanding the mechanism of energy healing. The information can help both practitioners and clients to optimize their environments for more successful health outcomes.

After choosing a career working with electricity, electronics, and computers, I found that in my thirties my health ran down to the point of being put on prescription medication. None of the doctors could tell my why this occurred and they told me that it was a "normal aspect of aging", everyone is the same! I now know that I had a form of radiation sickness that was caused by exposure to the equipment that I was working with, the products that were in my home, and too much sunlight exposure (the Sun is a nuclear reactor!). This is an excellent book that confirmed my own personal findings. Today I have good health that I thought was impossible to achieve a few years ago. Other books that I can also recommend are "Cross Currents" by Dr. Robert O. Becker and "Light, Radiation, and You" by Dr. John Nash Ott.

A thoroughly information rich book, filled with scientifically sound physics and medical facts that apparently are being ignored by large corporations and government as we are progressively bathed in EMF radiation from many sources. Since all human cells operate on micro-voltage and each cell resonates with their own unique vibrational signature (body electric), it does not take a rocket scientist to comprehend that introducing constant exposures of resonance producing EMFs will throw off the delicate balance at the cellular level producing unwanted medical conditions such as cancer, leukemia, diabetes etc. Adults are affected, but especially so for children whose cell divisions are unrelenting as they mature rendering children the most vulnerable to constant EMF exposure. This is not a fast read, but it is well written and needs to be thought about as it is read. Highly recommended. Also, read 'Dirty Electricity: Electrification and the Diseases of Civilization' by MD Samuel Milham. Check my other reviews about meters and filters that I ordered to detect and eliminate the threats in our home after reading this book.

This is an excellent book for learning about EMF's, and I recommend it to get up to speed on the issue.

That said, I own the 1995 edition, and wanted updated information on the topic. I ordered the 2007 print, thinking that it was a revised version. I was disappointed to receive a book that, with the exception of the 11 page Foreword, was "page by page" identical to the 1995 edition! The 2007 Foreword includes general statements about EMF developments from 1996 on, but there are no footnotes or documentation for this section.

My advice: if you can find one, buy a used 1995 edition instead! If you can't find the 1995 ed., then buy this 2007 print.

Excellent book to learn the intricate workings of EMF's. This should be a required text book in EMF training courses. Just like the title says, Electromagnetic Fields: A Consumer's Guide to the Issues and How to Protect Ourselves is a consumers guide to evaluating the true hazards of EMF's, and what you can do to check your local environment and personal habits to reduce your exposure to potentially dangerous levels of EMF's. My wife suffers with EHS and the information in this book is helping to learn and change things in our life to give her a better quality of life. I highly recommend this book.
