In my opinion, he is a visionary among his peers. As Deepak Chopra says, he is ... "a pioneer in the medicine of the future".
My wife (who is an RN) and I are both "passionate" about our health - especially about "prevention" and "holistic healing" (despite Dr. Weil not being a proponent of the word "holistic" in this context :>). We greatly respect alternative practitioners and we believe in WELLNESS, through the power of exercise - good nutrition - safe, natural supplementation - and wise lifestyle choices - as opposed to treating SICKNESS (from medications) through expensive and often toxic DRUGS - with their inevitable side effects. Accordingly, we loved this book.
Dr. Weil presents a balanced look at both "conventional" medicine and "alternative" modalities. He leads the reader to look at his/her own role in healing and in making appropriate choices in our OWN health care - it is up to each of US to decide what we, as persons seeking wellness, will need in terms of treatment and what we choose to place our belief in.
Dr Weil explores the role of FAITH - and the patient's "confidence" in their treatment - as positive inducators for the "outcome" of the treatment. I see this as being in the same realm as that of the great Dr. Bernie Siegel's best-seller book ... "Love, Medicine and Miracles" (the mind-body-spirit connection).
OUR HEALTH - Our health and well-being is our single most 'precious ASSET'. Nothing in the universe is more important. Nothing.
As a Financial Advisor and Business Consultant (primarily to health professionals) - I'm used to talking about investments / net worth / wealth, etc. But the raw truth is this: we can have all the riches and prosperity in the world - all the financial success on the planet - but without our HEALTH - these resources don't really matter - we will not be able to truly enjoy such rewards.
We personally believe that we can only achieve "complete" WELLNESS when our physical, emotional, spiritual and financial well-being are in 'harmony' - enabling us to achieve our life purposes ... wellness in mind, body, spirit - and finances. We believe that vibrant health, financial abundance, time freedom and peace of mind - IN BALANCE - TOGETHER = our total WELL-BEING.
Dr. Weil, trained as an M.D., believes that conventional medicine is great at handling trauma and sudden, life-threatening conditions, like heart attacks, but it's less good at dealing with chronic conditions like arthritis, diabetes, obesity. We agree completely.
Dr. Andrew Weil's book ... "Health And Healing" is without question, a 5-STAR candidate.
Sincerely,
Peter Arnold, CLU, CFC / Founder
