The author's years of thorough research, plus her talent as a writer, deliver an extremely accurate and informative history of the Cripple Creek District. With expertise and compassion, she delivered a realistic view of life as it was -- challenging, unimaginable, exciting, and to be treasured. I have re-read the book several times, and highly recommend her work. She gave me a perspective of the life of my grandparents who lived in Cripple Creek during the "last Great Gold Rush." I highly recommend her works! I only wish the narrator for the audio book had been more animated in his reading it and personally prefer the printed copy as a reference book.

A neat book giving details of the early area difficult to find elsewhere. Jan has a great writing style that's informative and easy to read and her book contains many vintage photos with views I have not previously seen. I just wish there was more! Nice meeting you at the Monarch!
