About the Author

Robert Stinnett served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946, where he earned ten battle stars and a Presidential Unit Citation. He is the author of George Bush: His World War II Years. Before devoting himself to writing Day of Deceit, he was a photographer and journalist for the Oakland Tribune. He is a consultant on the Pacific War for the BBC, Asahi Television, and NHK Television in Japan. He lives in Oakland, California.

To dismiss any thoughts you may have of this being just some conspiracy theory...
1. The author was a member of Naval photo intelligence during the war.
2. He believed the myth we're taught in school and through the media.
3. Only began to doubt while enjoying his retirement, he spotted a glitch in a newly published history, 1970s.
4. To my dismay, after thoroughly proving the title...day of deceit....he in the final chapter apologizes that he may seem to be smearing FDR who had to bring us into that good war...
Unbelievable how even he can't connect the dots...FDR was a treasonous war criminal at the least if he planned and executed the 'surprise' attack of December 7th, 1941.

Inconvenient truth is that Pearl Harbor was an event to get involved in WW II . Japan was blockaded from getting raw materials, the attack was known to the US government weeks in advance because the Japanese code was broken. So the war was just a big lie, like the wars after to this day.

After reading Day of Deceit, I don't think it's possible to think FDR didn't know the Japanese were going to bomb Pearl Harbor. After years of thorough research, author Robert Stinnett presents an overwhelming amount of documented evidence proving such.

Why would FDR deliberately let the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor without warning? The President needed to persuade isolationists to join the fight in World War II. He knew, however, that the United States wouldn't rally to act unless the United States was the victim of an overt act of war. He preferred Japan commit the act of war.

Through a series of provocative policies, FDR accomplished his mission.

It all began in October 1940, when Lieutenant Commander Arthur McCollum, head of the Far East desk of the Office of Naval Intelligence drafted an eight-action memo, intended to lead Japan to attack the United States, and sent it to two of FDR's most trusted military advisors.

Two of the action items were:

Keep the main strength of the US Fleet, now in the Pacific, in the vicinity of the Hawaiian Islands.

Completely embargo all trade with Japan, in collaboration with a similar embargo imposed by the British Empire.

When Admiral James Richardson, commander of the Pacific Fleet, heard about keeping the fleet in the vicinity of the Hawaiian Islands, he exploded. He disagreed with FDR and voiced his opinion. FDR relieved Richardson of his command, essentially ending his naval career. He replaced Richardson with Admiral Husband Kimmel.

Kimmel, unaware of FDR's plans, was consistently denied information, based on decoded Japanese messages. By August 1941, the Japanese had a bombing map of Pearl Harbor, based on the efforts of one of their spies.

It was no surprise to FDR when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

Joseph Rochefort, cofounder of the Navy's communication intelligence section, said, "Japan had no recourse but war. We cut off their money and trade."

With 70 pages of notes, dozens of documents and detailed information on his research sources, reinforces the validity of his conclusion: "After years of denial, the truth is clear: we knew."

For readers who have a casual interest in World War II and the attack on Pearl Harbor, this book may be too detailed to hold their interest. For those, however, who want to dive deeper into the attack on Pearl Harbor, it is an essential work.

This is the only guy who unearthed the truth about Pearl Harbor. Not Congress, not any other authors, but Robert Stinnett did the serious digging and brings us the truth, in spite of the Navy withholding crucial documents.

This gave the most information I have seen on all the events and the people involved in what led up to the Pearl Harbor attack. Some of it I already knew but, much of it was new to me and well laid out. The names and places along with what was not passed on that should have been. It just reinforced what I had already surmised, the men at Pearl were allowed to be attacked with no warning.

The book content and narration is excellent, but the copy ordered through Amazon was a big disappointment. The paper is terrible; the print poor, and the binding shoddy. It was relatively inexpensive but looked it, too––cheap looking and distracting to read. I hope it stays together long enough for me to at least finish it.

Probably the best work on the alleged "surprise attack" on Pearl Harbor. Believe what you want to believe, but the evidence provided in this book inadvertently ties up many of the loose ends in the movie "Tora, Tora, Tora." Yeah, FDR baited the Japanese into attacking Pearl Harbor. Gee, what a surprise? Stinnett argues that Adm. Kimmel and Gen. Short should have been warned, but many authorities believe that if they had been warned and our fleet had gone out to meet the Japanese on the high seas, our fleet would have been sunk in deep ocean and the fact that we were reading the Japanese codes would have been out of the bag, and the Battle of Midway could have turned out much differently for the US Navy. Well worth the read.
