Review
"The story of Edgar Cayce has inspired me from the time I was 12 years old. As one of the first well-studied medical intuitives, his work and his life helped blaze the path for the future of medicine." -- Christiane Northrup, M.D., author of Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom, Bantam, 1994
"This biography of Edgar Cayce, Southern Presbyterian mystic and clairvoyant, has become a nineteenth-century classic in the history of Christian spirituality." -- Dr. Richard H. Drummond, Emeritus Professor of Comparative Religion, University of Dubuque Theological Seminary

One of the real struggles in my life was to reconcile the doctrines of Christianity with the concept of reincarnation as presented in the readings (meaning people returning as people only.) The Cayce source articulated a logical framework that covered such topics as Biblical inerrancy, Biblical interpretation, timelines of our creation, and more that put matters in perspective that kept Christ fully authentic. I am still disturbed by the Evangelical Christian response to Cayce, because they are quite dismissive of him. I managed to connect with a fellow Christian who harbors considerable affinity for Cayce, but this is not a common occurrence. My hope is that with Thomas Sugrue's book and several others, the tide will turn more favorably toward a truly gifted man who brought about a better understanding of the spiritual nature of our existence.
His foundation is still in Virginia Beach & continues to be active.
I also want to add here that I own three copies of this book: the original 1943 edition with publishing date of Dec.1942, printed in 1943 by Henry Holt and Company, Inc.; the 1972 edition printed in 1972 by Holt, Rinehart and Winston and same size and format as the original 1943 book, and the new paperback edition, published in 1997 by the A.R.E. press.
Due to a review posted here by a "perceptive lady", I went through pain of comparing the three books (not to mention the cost of acquiring the original first edition) to see if she was telling the truth. Since the new book is so much smaller (dense text of smaller size can save quite a bit of space) I thought that it was quite possible that some contents may have been lost. However, after spending numerous hours comparing the three texts I found absolutely no difference between them. Zero, nothing, zilch, nada, null, bupkis.
The new edition, has pictures of Edgar Cayce and A.R.E from the times when it was first founded, which I find a very nice addition. So if anything, the new edition is better than the old one. However, I am old fashioned and I like the big print and hard cover of the old editions. But other than that, absolutely nothing is lost with this new edition.
It is just too bad that those who do a really good job are attacked for no good reason. One should make sure that what they claim is true, is really true. And others should also check for themselves before they trust a passionate but untrue review such as the one by the "perceptive lady".

It was so influential, that I bought it as a gift for other people.
The later 200 or so pages, give insights into what came through on the readings. Which is worth the book price alone, in my opinion. A truely enlightening read, of the life of one of the most accurate psychics.
If I have to find a complaint, it would be on the type size. As the lettering is really small. And at times the narative reads a bit dated. But dont forget that this was written when Edgar was still alive. He passed in the mid 1940's
But don't let these comments put you off. A brilliant book, that will be read again, and again
