Love this book….extremely interesting!
Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2021
My father introduced me to Edgar Cayce (in books, not the man) as a teenager. I've been a lifelong student of the readings ((I'm 65) and found that they produce a consistent and coherent world view on the nature of life, consciousness, healing, Christian history, God, and meaning. I took possession of the book long before Amazon existed, so please don't be distracted if I am not a verified purchaser.

One of the real struggles in my life was to reconcile the doctrines of Christianity with the concept of reincarnation as presented in the readings (meaning people returning as people only.) The Cayce source articulated a logical framework that covered such topics as Biblical inerrancy, Biblical interpretation, timelines of our creation, and more that put matters in perspective that kept Christ fully authentic. I am still disturbed by the Evangelical Christian response to Cayce, because they are quite dismissive of him. I managed to connect with a fellow Christian who harbors considerable affinity for Cayce, but this is not a common occurrence. My hope is that with Thomas Sugrue's book and several others, the tide will turn more favorably toward a truly gifted man who brought about a better understanding of the spiritual nature of our existence.

Very interesting read! He was not a doctor or even highly educated, but Edgar Cayce had amazing gifts of diagnosing & healing. He helped many people over his lifetime.
His foundation is still in Virginia Beach & continues to be active.

Always heard stories growing up and wanted to read about him. This book does not really cover his premonitions. It does tell the story of his amazing life and how he helped people.

As a lifelong Christian, this book helped clarify and connect my faith with the metaphysical teachings that I've been learning & researching. To read of the struggles this man had trying to understand and use his God given gift of healing while reconciling it with his deeply held Christian beliefs gave me lots of encouragement. The prose was a little old fashion but not hard to read or understand. I highly recommend it for anyone who is being led into the mysterious but still has a faith in the traditional religions.

This is quite possibly one of the most important books ever written. It introduces us to the life and work of Edgar Cayce, one of the best documented psychics (prophets?) ever. Had it not been for works of people such as Cayce, Paul Solomon and a few others, we may be still living in dark ages not really knowing that there is so much more to life than meets the eye (and that modern institutions would have one believe).
I also want to add here that I own three copies of this book: the original 1943 edition with publishing date of Dec.1942, printed in 1943 by Henry Holt and Company, Inc.; the 1972 edition printed in 1972 by Holt, Rinehart and Winston and same size and format as the original 1943 book, and the new paperback edition, published in 1997 by the A.R.E. press.
Due to a review posted here by a "perceptive lady", I went through pain of comparing the three books (not to mention the cost of acquiring the original first edition) to see if she was telling the truth. Since the new book is so much smaller (dense text of smaller size can save quite a bit of space) I thought that it was quite possible that some contents may have been lost. However, after spending numerous hours comparing the three texts I found absolutely no difference between them. Zero, nothing, zilch, nada, null, bupkis.
The new edition, has pictures of Edgar Cayce and A.R.E from the times when it was first founded, which I find a very nice addition. So if anything, the new edition is better than the old one. However, I am old fashioned and I like the big print and hard cover of the old editions. But other than that, absolutely nothing is lost with this new edition.
It is just too bad that those who do a really good job are attacked for no good reason. One should make sure that what they claim is true, is really true. And others should also check for themselves before they trust a passionate but untrue review such as the one by the "perceptive lady".

I bought this book in 1968 an it changed me forever, all my past experiences and phobias made complete since, I HAVE LIVED BEFORE....an know why I react to so many things an have fears of others. My friends son asked her "What Happens when you die".. Everyone has different beliefs an this to me is the most logical for me because I have past memories from past lives to verify it

I wouldn't mind paying a thousand bucks To Cayce or Sugrue for their life's story. But not a farthing to this publisher or seller for this low quality paperback. The pages are cheap white, the print is packed sardines, the cover edges are already worn dog ears, is this the mass market paper back being sold for half the price on your competitors online shopping site? That said, the nice things include language that is spelling mistake free, unsmudged ink, tight binding gum in it's spine. But Rs 833/- not justified.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astounding read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 17, 2012
I really enjoyed this book. It was written at a time when Edgar was still alive. This is a story of the amazing Edgar Cayce's life. The ups and downs.
The later 200 or so pages, give insights into what came through on the readings. Which is worth the book price alone, in my opinion. A truely enlightening read, of the life of one of the most accurate psychics.

If I have to find a complaint, it would be on the type size. As the lettering is really small. And at times the narative reads a bit dated. But dont forget that this was written when Edgar was still alive. He passed in the mid 1940's
But don't let these comments put you off. A brilliant book, that will be read again, and again
