Purchase options and add-ons

A well seasoned steak, eggs, dark chocolate, and apples can really hit the spot. But sometimes, we could really go for Chili Pie, Benedict Deviled Eggs, Thin Mint Cookies, and Apple Pie. Even the most disciplined and willful among us can become bored and wayward on a routine of bland, repetitive meals. Humans naturally crave delicious food, interesting cuisine and variety.

Primal Cravings sets out to provide the best of both worlds – the food to satiate our deep seated, visceral urges made with ingredients that satisfy our ancient, genetic needs for good health. This cookbook contains 125 Primal/Paleo recipes, and also includes bonus features that detail the authors’ thoughts of the tenets of a Primal/Paleo diet and the mentality of a flexible, healthy eating lifestyle to show you how vibrant health can be found without sacrificing great taste.

Based in South Carolina, authors Brandon and Megan Keatley created
Primal Cravings on the momentum of their popular Health-Bent.com website – a treasure trove of Primal/Paleo recipes, workout tips and motivational messages. These kitchen whizzes and expert-level fitness coaches present PrimalCravings after several years of research, experimentation and perfecting recipes in their home kitchen. Primal Cravings presents the recipes in a simple, clear, easy-to-navigate format, and offers a detailed macronutrient analysis of each preparation. Knowing time is the most valuable resource, they also provide primers on ingredients, tools, and stocking your kitchen, and offer menu suggestions for a variety of occasions and considerations (quick, budget, feeding a crowd).

With
PrimalCravings, you can enjoy assorted breakfasts, meat and main dishes, sides and salads, snacks, sweets and basics like bread, sauces, and dressings that adhere to Primal/Paleo guidelines. Inside you’ll find 100% low-sugar, grain-free, gluten-free, industrial oil-free recipes all accompanied by full color photos. Pioneering new gluten/grain free baking techniques for Primal Cravings, the Keatleys show you how to make the best Primal treats you’ve ever had. If you’ve been missing or looking for healthy, innovative ways to make things from All-American fare like breakfast egg dishes, waffles and pancakes, muffins, burgers, chili, pizza, chips, baked goods (cakes, pies, cookies, crackers, brownies) and frozen desserts to global cuisine like gyros, spanakopita, moo shu, barbacoa, tacos, tikka masala and other favorites – then this is the book for you.

I found the "Health-Bent website after someone recommended butternut squash lasagna as an alternative to traditional lasagna. I was instantly drawn in by the candid, easily understood conversational manner of the website owners. after trying several of their recipes, I noticed that they had (at last) come out with a cookbook! I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! Everything that I have tried has more than exceeded my expectations. I like the view that they have of nutrition, which they spell out in the book from the very beginning. They recognize that they have some gray areas and I appreciate that! I've tried the all American burgers, the Philly Cheesesteak peppers, the coconut chocolate chip cookies (they really do taste like a certain annually available, coconut laden cookie), the maple pecan bars (they taste like pecan pie without the starchy crust) and many others! The recipes REALLY taste GOOD and are VERY FULFILLING. I LOVE THE PICTURES! If I'm going to use a cookbook, I want to KNOW what my food is SUPPOSED to look like. The ingredients are simple and you don't have to be a celebrity chef to get great results!I think this is a great book whether you're just starting out or you are experienced in Paleo eating OR even if you're NOT Paleo but are just looking for some out-of-the-box cooking ideas. MANY THANKS TO THE AUTHORS!!
**Just wanted to add THIS: Before I started paying attention to (and utilizing) the nutritional truths mentioned in this book (along with incorporating some exercise), I had a cholesterol level of 210. My last test result showed 140 and all of my levels (good/bad fats) were WELL within range. THIS all without follwoing the conventional wisdom of eating grains in order to LOWER my cholesterol. Now, I AM NOT saying that this book is some medical journal or something, but my overall health has improved while following the guidelines that they CLEARLY outline in the book. I have used bacon fat from time to time, and eaten whole eggs, cream, etc. Oh, and I have gone out from time to time and eaten at places that aren't the greatest nutritionally, but because of my (now) efficient metabolism, I have not gained ANY WEIGHT! Plus I TRULY FEEL the difference when I venture out. BUY THIS BOOK!

I would like to say I love this cookbook, and even if I wasn't trying to learn the Paleo lifestyle, I would still love it! I have only made the Thai Chicken Meatballs so far but let me say they are AMAZING and even better the next day!!! Oh and I actually goofed up because instead of using 2lbs. of ground chicken I only used one, and the recipe still came out great... I plan to do a lot of cooking from this! I like how they do not use nut flours, and personally, it doesn't bother me that they use starches, which I think are mainly in the desserts anyhow... It seems to me that even if this was the only book you cooked your meals out of you would still be in WAY better condition than eating all food found in the typical American processed diet. If you say for example made the Thai Chicken Meatballs I made and paired it with a good salad and another healthy veggie I think you are gonna have a pretty amazingly healthy meal to enjoy!

*** Update: I made the Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Bell Peppers, and they were sooo YUM... the funny thing is though, that so far everything I have made was seriously 10 times better the next day. I also made the Blueberry pies... Ok these turned out great, but I do have a couple of suggestions... First, my blueberry mixture never thickened up, I did follow the directions for this exactly, so I am not sure what happened... but all I did was add about 3/4 teaspoon xanthan gum and that thickened it up perfectly. I also thought it was not quite sweet enough so since these are just treats, not for everyday, i added 1 tablespoon of coconut sugar and that made it better... I also added some cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice... lastly make sure you make an egg wash to brush over these, it will make them that much better. I did some both ways and the one with the egg wash won :) I have to say this pastry dough is crazy cool and I would not have been ever able to tell you it wasn't wheat. It's so good!

***Oh and I do want to add I think next time I would try to thicken this with gelatin, but I was out and had a bottle of xanthan gum from a while back, not my first choice but I wanted to see the project through and I wasn't going to with blueberry soup :)... last comment, I love the fact that most of the recipes only have a small number of ingredients and so far even the pies were very quick to put together.

I've bought an assortment of paleo/primal cookbooks. They've all been...alright. The second this one came in the mail I loved it. It's a hardcover book. Yes, I said it. HARDCOVER!

Other than that every single thing that I've made in it has been delicious. And by saying every single thing I've made, I don't mean I've only made one or two things, I've made at least 10-15 things from this book so far. I love that dairy is optional. We eat dairy so the addition of butter and cheese (all optional) was a nice change. I've also been an avid baker for quite some time, and find that they're cookies/cakes/etc. live up to expectation. They're really played their ration of tapioca flour and coconut flour out. Things are fluffy when they're supposed to be and dense when they're supposed to be (this also goes for most of the book, for example the pancakes).

This book is also far less complicated than a lot of other primal/paleo cookbooks. It doesn't require you to make seventeen sauces from scratch to complete one recipe (yes, exaggeration, but you get the picture). Also, you don't have to run out and buy things that you've never heard of before, don't know where to find them, or have to spend loads of money on right off the bat. This is a great beginners cookbook for the paleo/primal lifestyle.

And, last but not least, it actually tastes and feels like you're eating your favorite foods. Have a pancake craving? a cook craving? and hamburger craving? IT'S ALL IN HERE.

I could seriously sing the praises of this book for quite some time, but I'll refrain. Just know that you can't go wrong with this book. EVER!

We have made about 20 different things out of this cook book and all of them are amazing! With my fiancé being gluten free for about a year now, being able to make cookies and biscuits that taste and are the same texture (as far as my memory serves) as ones made with wheat is mind blowing. We now refer to this as The Book, as it seems to be the only cook book we turn to for new ideas and meals. We have started gifting a lot of people this, as the recipes are that amazing. I think this should be in everybody's cook book collection.

For hardcore primal enthusiasts this book might go too far against the grain and so be snubbed by them, but for me being a newbie to primal living I have found it a great help for those times when you just might feel you're missing out! It's a gorgeously presented book and a pleasure to hold and read through. Full of tempting recipes, lovely pictures and useful information which has instantly made it one of my favourite books about food. I preordered it before it's release and wasn't disappointed when it arrived!

I love this book; it's the new staple cookbook in the home. Delicious, sumptuous recipes for anything you might crave. I would still reduce SOME of the sugar in the sweets recipe and add a dash more of salt, but that's my particular taste. The kids love everything I've made from this, and the mayonnaise recipe is finally one that they'll eat and enjoy.

I chose this book as this diet was recommended for health reasons. This is the 3rd paleo book I have bought and by far the best. We can now have breakfast bars, a variety of cakes, deserts, chicken nuggets, pad thai and burgers.

I can't wait for their second book - just to say thank you to the authors, you've really helped me stick to a paleo diet.
