About the Author
Lisa Parry Arnold is a professional genealogist. Her first book is entitled "Thee and Me: A Beginner's Guide to Early Quaker Records". She is Sr. Content Strategist on the Global Content Team at Ancestry.com, and has been employed there for nine years. Her responsibilities include providing expert research on records and collections including African-American, Native American and church records, among others. She has provided research for the hosts of "Today Show" and "Good Morning America", and was also part of the research team for NBC's "Who Do You Think You Are?" television show. Lisa is a frequent presenter at national genealogy conferences, and a guest lecturer at the Institute of Genealogy & Historical Research (IGHR). She has been a speaker for Ancestry.com at major Ancestry Day events held in major cities around the United States. In addition to being a lecturer and author, Lisa teaches family history classes in her community. She is former Director of the Family History Center in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Lisa Parry Arnold was a birthright member of Westfield Friends Meeting in Cinnaminson, Burlington County, New Jersey. She is a graduate of George School ('71) and Brigham Young University (History/Family History, 2006). She is a Master's degree candidate in history at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. She is the Founding President of the Philadelphia Area Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists. Lisa's interest in genealogy stems from her heritage as a Quaker. Her family lines extend back to the early Quakers, who were followers of George Fox in England and came to the colonies in the days of William Penn. Like the ten generations before her, Lisa was raised in the Quaker religion. She attended Quaker schools, and was married in a Quaker wedding ceremony in the Westfield Friends Meetinghouse in 1974. She completed an internship at Swarthmore College in 2003, working with the largest Quaker record collection in America, housed at the Swarthmore Friends Historical Library. It was the internship which led to the writing of her book.

I have been discovering I have some Quaker roots in my family tree and wanted a guide to help me decipher what I was seeing on Ancestry.com. This book was perfect!! Easy to read and very informative! Good historical information, links to supporting websites and the case study which leads you through a family, is invaluable! Good charts and pictures to help you as well. Thank you for a great book!! I now am excited (rather than overwhelmed) and can go back to digging for family roots armed with perspective!

Finally! A comprehensive book on Quaker research. If you’re new or a seasoned researcher, this is a must have for anyone working on their Quaker lines. The author provides an in depth background on Quaker customs and how it impacts the records we research today. Tricky topics like Quaker dates, meeting structure and record types are all skillfully explained. She also provides valuable insights into Quaker record depositories along with several online sources. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about the original Quakers or their family history.

I've been looking for a book that would help me understand the Quaker records. They used such interesting, but different, language, and took great care with their records...if you can decipher them. This book is an easy read. It pointed me towards the right resources and the case study in chapter 14 was the perfect walk through of the records and the databases on Ancestry.com. I do recommend the print book as the ebook doesn't have any of the pictures or the case study. If you just want the information, and the charts/references, the ebook would be fine. Great resource book for anyone interested in the history of the Quakers or someone researching their Quaker roots!

Thee and Me answered some of my questions about finding information about my Quaker ancestors (my maternal grandmother was a practicing Quaker all of her life as were here ancestors). This book has already been a help and I anticipate that I will be using it a lot in the future. Thanks!

Well written and extensively covers both background information on understanding Quakers records and their purpose and how to access them particularly using Internet sources. Great reference text for the Quaker researcher.
