A really great buy I have found that this book shows me how to be happy in every single part of my life, by dicecting the people who have great attitudes towards life rather than having rich people who are happy because of their wealth. This takes a new approach by analyzing the people who are just naturally happy. It shows a different perspective than what I percieved and gotta say it's helped me see the brighter picture of things rather than just focusing on the negativity. Marci even has habits that stick to my daily routine and continue to read it when I need to reinforce those habits.

This book is really great, with a detailed and effective study of what it might take to have a deep kind of happiness, that you can sustain under any circumstance. A happiness that goes beyond what is happening "out there" and is built on various solid foundations. There are a lot of personal stories, which might get in the way if you are reading it and impatient to just get to "the bottom line," but as an audio book, they really help deepen the understanding by creating more of an experience than a thought, if that makes sense. The authors are women and so the vibe is definitely feminine. There is of course no hostility to men, but there is no male energy at all available in the book. For example, analogies are all about gardening and stuff like that, very gentle and soft stuff, nothing about the joy of pushing through a challenge or being a warrior in difficult circumstance. For men, I would say this touches the magician, the lover, and the king, but not the warrior. Nonetheless, I found the ideas and writing to be powerful and useful for both men and women and took a number of notes and things to put into practice.

The seven pillars are to
1) Take ownership of your happiness
2) Understand your mind and train it for happiness
3) Unerstand your heart and train it for happiness
4) Understand your body and train it
5) Understand your sould and train it
6) Live a life inspired by purpose
7) Cultivate a garden or nourishing relationships

As the author of The Post-College Guide to Happiness, I'd like to say I come to this review with some expertise but that would be misleading. It's Marci's book that helped me to become confident and happy enough to be a writer in the first place.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that I've read or listened to Marci's book over 20 times, because each time I'm able to glean something new that I missed the previous (19) time(s). I love and employ some of the exercises from the book almost every day. This isn't just some pie in the sky book that tells you you'll be happy if you just think happy thoughts and sprinkle yourself with fairy dust. Marci tells you how to get down to business with many practical exercises. She also shares stories from her Happy 100 that give you some evidence that the exercises actually work. I loved the stories so much, I bought the audio version for my mother for her birthday.

Reading a book like this is about trust. If you come into it assuming that you're hopeless and that what Marci has to say isn't the solution, you might not get much out of it. I came at this book with an open mind and it literally changed my life. I tracked down Marci via phone a few months after reading this and told her how much she inspired me. She's just as wonderful to speak with via phone as she is to read by the page. Pick this book up and you'll be pretty happy you did.
